I'm the same way. They work as kind of a release for me.

thats the same with me its like...i guess its making you realize that someone else is having a bad time and something in your brain clicks like dude im not all alone in the world...but thats what i think

Soul Asylum - Runaway Train probably makes me more sad than anything else.

I think I mentioned this in another thread, but a guy I knew in high school commited suicide and requested this play at his funeral, so yeah.

If Im in a sad mood the song 'In This River' by Black Label Society gets to me, it really gets me thinking about whatever ****ty thing is going on

If you want sad songs listen to smile from the streets you hold. Although I doubt your this sad, considering he was close to killing himself in a hotel full of crazy drawing and heroine while making it.

there are a lot of sad songs that I like, some times I just make a playlist to feel depressed...don't know why...but if I had to choose the one, single most depressing song I'd go with "Pretty (Ugly Before)" by Elliott Smith

Mad World by Gary Jules makes me sad. So does Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.

That song does for sure, I forgot about that one.

yeah Gary Jules version is great...however I don't really like "Iris", I just feel it could had been a better song if they worked it some more...but maybe I listen to too much prog:D

Fair enough! I love it as it is. I suppose it went pretty mainstream for a reason though.

I love the saxophone that comes in later. I still can't find this album on CD and have make do with my Cassette.

Personally, I tend to privilege the sound, so my fav songs are:
- Gravity (Embrace)
- My melancholy blues (Queen)
- Not for all the love in the world (the thrills)
- Where the wild roses grow (minogue/cave)
- vicious traditions (the veils)
- trouble (coldplay)

makes me sad when i hear it
