I don't know if a 12" counts but The Low Numbers had only released one single "Telekom" before morphing into Hisoft. I've listened to it atleast 20 times this month I think.

Bakerloo was a sweet heavy blues rock band from Britain, a la Cream.
I never got why they didn't make it. So cool |
Amesoeurs were an amazing band who split up last year after releasing one self-titled album in 2009. They featured Neige of Alcest on guitar and joint-vocals and incorporated a wide variety of influences including black metal, shoegaze and post-rock.

Mmm, last shadow puppets, the good the bad and the queen.
Both! |

the thread had to deal with groups that aren't around anymore and only released one cd before they disbanded. |

The Power of the Picts (1969) by Writing on the Wall http://ts2.mm.bing.net/images/thumbn...n_caverock.jpg Orgasm/Cave Rock (1969) by Cromagnon EDIT: By the way, Eros is a great album. |
Been a while now. Oh well. One should be out and about in the spring sun instead of mining for one-album-wonders anyway.
http://www.shedblog.co.uk/wp-content...ed-england.jpg England - Garden shed (1977) Probably the best Yes-ripoff there ever was. And I'm cheating a bit here, since there's also a demo album around recorded as a follow-up to this masterpiece, that's been released posthumously. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...red_Baboon.jpg Yezda Urfa - Sacred baboon (1976/1989) Probably the best Yes-on-speed-ripoff there ever was. I'm cheating a bit here as well, once again since there's a demo album around. And the complications don't stop there (or with the music, which just blows your mind); it was recorded in 1976 but not released until 13 years later in the age of grunge and sleaze when, if possible, prog was about as fit for the general opinion as East Germany was for automotive manufacturing. How great is that! http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...ZL._SS500_.jpg Jakob Hellman - Och stora havet (1989) Ok, this probably won't make any sense to the non-native swede, but it ranks up there as well. Anyway, it's the sole album by Jakob Hellman and it's one of the most critically acclaimed swedish pop albums ever, and even if I personally think it's dragged down a bit by the slick production standards of the time as well as reminders of the doldrums of my childhood, I still think it's damn fine pop for the bucks. Look it up if you like well-crafted powerpop. http://freemusic07.ucoz.com/The_Yell...ow_Balloon.jpg Yellow Balloon - s/t (1967) I don't really know that much about the band nor the record, except that it's a bloody good one. Falls into the same category as "Pet sounds", "Odessey and oracle", i.e. lush, sunny pop. http://www.progarchives.com/progress...1815102008.jpg Giles, Giles & Fripp - The cheerful insanity of Giles, Giles and Fripp (1968) And this puppy doesn't fit in anywhere in particular, definitely not in the Court of the Crimson King. The closest analogy I can think of is contemporary Kinks, albeit spiced with Robert Fripp's already dexterious jazz runs. Very english, very different from what they (or two of them at least) would go on doing, and very good. |
a sadly defunct but brilliantly named band who only made one album....

The two contemporary examples that jumped to my mind:
Death from Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_gp0vNKvnft...165_SS500_.jpg Maybe not done (reunited for a short tour this summer)? Test Icicles - For Screening Purposes Only http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_yNuIxvlnn0...poses_only.JPG |

I see them as the same group they just put down the bass and drums and utilized producing software to express themselves musically. I'd like to see another album from the guys via DFA1979, the reunion may lead to something... |

Controlling the Famous - Automatic City I discovered this band on purevolume back in 9th grade. Fell in love with them off the track Highway Parking Lot. At one point when Myspace was still cool I messaged the band asking what lead to their break up and like most smaller groups there wasn't enough money coming in to keep going on tour and have enough to release another album. This story is a dime a dozen though, many wonderful groups fall apart due to financial difficulties. I wish it didn't have to be this groups fate... http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg |
I think Acrimony only did 1 record.Great band.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__OGWQMohhd...0/atomship.jpg
Atomship - The Crash of '47 It's a shame that they didn't make more albums. They attempted to rename the band about two times but then one of their members died of OD in 09. |
American Football - S/T
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qc-0Nsi-xT...20/am+foot.jpg Really good emo album, heard about it on this site years ago. They also released an EP, also self titled The Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov...87283n0jlc.jpg One of my favorite pop-punk albums. 3/4 of the members were killed in a car wreck after the album was released. |
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...Bone_Apple.jpg
Mother Love Bone - Apple They have an EP, but I still only consider them to have only one album. They were pretty talented and Andy Wood's songwritting was pretty damn good at that to. These guys could've been competing with Nirvana if not being as big as them if Andy hadn't died. |

http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/7529/rockpile2.jpg Technically speaking I don't know these count, The Rezillos only had one studio album, "Can't Stand The Rezillos" then they recorded a live album, they changed there name to the Revillos. William Mysterious' bass playing on "Can't Stand The Rezillos" is some of the best you ever want to hear. "Second's of Pleasure" is the only studio album by Rockpile but the member of band consisting of Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe played on each other albums. They were back to the basic Rock n Roll band and the album sounds it could had been recorded in the 50's. |
