Check out Mozart's comedies, for example you could start with one of his most well known, Don Giovanni.

Incidentally, I just saw a production of Don Giovanni on Thursday. I don't think it's a "gentle" opera, but there's a lot of variety in the mood throughout. Some of it is pleasantly light and melodic but there are dark, powerful moments as well (especially the Commendatore scene). It's definitely worth checking out in any case.

I'm really digging Mazzy Star at the moment, cheers. I've downloaded some of their mp3s, Fade Into You is such a gorgeous song.

To me, Mozart is just generally more light. I really enjoy Don Giovanni, mostly just because of the Commendatore scene. It is really powerful, especially for the time. But in general, Mozart is definetly more light than Wagner, for example.

I feel like finding some new bands that give you the same sort of feeling as the album The Velvet Underground And Nico? Or, also, anything that gives off the same feeling as Looking In The Shadows by The Raincoats.

I also have a question, is Ultra Vivid Scene worth downloading in any body's opinion? Why or why not?

Definitely, especially if you like the kind of music you were just describing. I have a review of their third album right here if you're interested.

been on a bit of a kick recently. working on developing a keener taste (boy does that sound pretentious) for the earliest years of hardcore & its influence on the beginnings of 'alternative' music. what i've got so far is glorious; a few staple records but it would be awesome if someone could point me in the same direction as these bands:

Minutemen
Meat Puppets
X
Black Flag
