Battle of the Reviewers - Give your nominations here!

nominations closed!

Hey guys :)

Sometimes after I wrote the Album Review Index, I tried to think of things it could be useful for aside the obvious, which is finding reviews. One idea that I did have was why not arrange a little contest between reviewers. That might make people read more reviews and it could also give a little back to those who spend their time contributing to the site that way. How to do it? Well, I did think about something grand like Comus' battle of the bands, but it's a bit too much I think, so I guess I'll fall back on making this a simpler poll.

What I want first, before I make the poll, is nominations. When posting your nomination, keep this in mind :
  1. Nominate one reviewer
  2. Don't nominate yourself

In other words, there are lots of reviewers on MB and it doesn't make sense to put all of them in the poll. I don't want people to simply fill in the missing reviewers with their nominations either, so pick someone you think does a good job (you choose the criteria). Hopefully at the end of this, I can make some sort of poll with the nominees.

I'll keep and maintain a list of nominees here :

Nominations :

ATTENTION NOMINEES!

Before the real poll, I'm gonna ask you to give me a link or two to reviews that will represent you in the poll that will be made eventually. This is to give potential pollers something to base their poll-choice on. I will send out messages in case some of you don't read it here, but those of you who do, feel free to send me some links whenever. :)

I'd like to nominate Seltzer simply because I just had another look at his King Crimson Education thread and his reviews, aside from everything else which is good, are amazingly informative which is someting I like.

Comus.

Because it's usually something a little out of the norm that he reviews.

Yup, good nomination! I got a lot of weird (and good) stuff in my collection now thanks to him :)

Fruitonica 03-27-2009 05:30 AM

I'll go with Cardboard Adolescent, probably not the most helpful reviews but some of the best written on the site.

Piss Me Off 03-27-2009 06:33 AM

Cardboard Adolescent would be my pick as well, i love his style of writing.

Alfred 03-27-2009 06:36 AM

Fruitonica.

Bulldog 03-27-2009 06:39 AM

Roygbiv gets my vote.

Guybrush 03-27-2009 06:48 AM

All deserving nominees, all added! :)

I was thinking of nominating him, but for that reason I didn't.

Also, I'm hoping he'll get his ass back on the forum soon!

Husky McDump 03-27-2009 08:18 AM

Roygbiv does a wonderful job.

Honorable Mention
Bulldog's Elvis Costello discovery review was very very well done also.

I agree with you :)

Does that mean you nominate Bulldog for the poll?

Husky McDump 03-27-2009 08:34 AM

Well sticking to the rules of this thread. My vote is for Roygbiv, but my close second was Bulldog.

Anteater 03-27-2009 08:38 AM

I would like to nominate Toretorden, as I find his reviews thus far interesting, well-written and varied genre-wise. :baseball:

Husky McDump 03-27-2009 08:39 AM

Thanks for posting this thread btw, I don't think the album reviews get noticed as much as they should.

Alright, we haven't started voting yet, this is just gathering the nominations. If you think Bulldog is good enough to participate in the poll, feel free to nominate him. :)

Thanks Ant! :D

dhayespw 03-27-2009 08:43 AM

I have been reading Stu's reviews for a week or so. I know I am new here, but I would like to nominate that guy.

in that case, bulldog should up up there as well =]

Guybrush 03-27-2009 08:53 AM

Alright, Stu and Bulldog added :)

Sneer 03-27-2009 08:58 AM

Molecules, his 60's psych thread is tops

Agreed, adding the Moleman!

Molecules, if you read this, stop being lazy and gather up the links to those reviews for the index. ;)

Bulldog 03-27-2009 12:48 PM

If I'm allowed another nomination, I'd like to put Alfred's name forward. He's got a great, straight-to-the-point style and doesn't ramble on like I do. His album thread's got me interested in some stuff I'd never have listened to before as well.

Surell 03-27-2009 01:04 PM

I would demand a place on here but that's because I'm an attention whore and I only reviewed two albums.

You had your chance man!

But maybe someone who have yet to nominate will agree with you. I know of several yet unmentioned who I'd like to see in the poll ..

Truth be told, I'm terrible at rambling on. ;)

Even though you can't nominate me, thanks for the compliments. :)

A third album will be up soon though!

I'm gonna go read Alfred's reviews now and see if I should come back here bitching or not. WHEN I FIND THEM DAMN IT.

Alfred 03-27-2009 05:38 PM

Just check my top 25.

i already did, there's only 6 or 7 of them, just threw in the latest one. :p:

erm there's a few people who should get their dues and I'm trusting they will if we are getting the one nom each.

I'll nominate theCellarTapes, the journal is great and he has Stockport wrapped round his little finger

someone nominate Anteater, JH, also Urban has been responsible for the funniest stuff i've read on here, etc etc

Oh right, I thought more of them were missing, sorry about that :p

TheCellarTapes is most deserving! I also agree on your other honourable mentions. :)

I was looking in the review forums darn you sir.

Surell 03-27-2009 06:46 PM

I do agree that you are very to the point about the albums you review, which is good for getting the basic idea of an album and making it simpler to know if I'd like it or not. It's well organized also, and you stick to that organization in your reviews. Or at least you did in your early reviews.

I would like to nominate Alfred.

right-track 03-27-2009 06:51 PM

I'll second TheCellarTapes.
His journal 'An Alternative Look at the 1960's' is in my mind one of the most interesting collection of reviews on MB and makes for some great and informative reading.
It's a nice mix of well known and not so well known albums. The latter of which I've been adding to my 'albums to get list'.
Plus he's a Mancunian and I'm biased.

jackhammer 03-27-2009 07:03 PM

^^

Man U fans Tssk. ;)

I was joking about being biased.
Seriously, his thread is feeding my love for 60's music.

jackhammer 03-27-2009 07:09 PM

I know ffs. Cellar Tapes has done some damn good reviews. Saddened that I haven't been noticed for my Pink Floyd Reviews :( My Horror thread aint half bad either. Philistines .
