First country album I ever bought, before then I subscribed to the notion that all country music (aside from Johnny Cash and Hank Williams) was lame. Boy was I wrong.

While it was actually the Blackalicious song "Alphabet Aerobics" that made me realize they was some talent in hip hop, this full album really gave me the full appreciation of the genre, and was the stepping stone to find more groups.

While I was already a fan of metal before I heard this album, this made me truly see the beauty behind it. I don't think anybody has ever topped this album as far as composition is concerned. Lyrically it is also among the best.

1986. 14 years old. Shaped me forever musically and wouldn't be here now talking about music.

Plenty more shaped me along the way such as:

Pink Floyd - Meddle
Napalm Death - Scum
Tangerine Dream - Underwater Sunlight
Underworld - Second Toughest In The Infants
Melt Banana - Cellscape.

Blackalicious #1 hip-hop artist for me, Melodica (1995) was a huge break through for them. If you want that EP send me a pm

Gotta be Doolittle by the Pixies. Made me realize there was some amazing stuff out there that would never get much radio play.

I think over the past year I've been getting away from the whole contemporary music paradigm and immersing myself in a lot more classically based music. Astor Piazzola is a fantastic 20th cent. Argentinian composer who fused elements of jazz, classical, and tango together to form a new genre which he dubbed Nuevo Tango. It's so beautiful. That's about all I can say. Great for those wobbly existential moments us humans are so prone to.
