I don't understand how you are grouping Sigur Ros with those bands. Sigur Ros are (excluding 'Med Sud...') a band that is pushing boundaries and creating a unique sound. You are incredibly uninformed if you think they are on the same level as Coldplay.

I know they aren't on the same damn level as Coldplay dac meh' boy, my point is (if you know me at all by now) that these kids who normally listen to whatever has merchandise at Hot Topic connect to Sigur Ros (who admittedly have gotten quite a bit of exposure since 1999, which is how they've gained most of their audience in the first place, plus they have some kind of cross-over appeal) and then simply stop stepping outside their little boxes. And you know how I know this? Because I've MET and talked to a fair amount of people who pride themselves on it.

You need to hear these to remind yourself how bland 'alternative' music can be.
This is an interesting list, to say the least.

I think Green Day are a good example of how bland and unimaginative alot of, as you put it, 'alternative' bands can be but I actually wouldnt have chosen this album. I can't say I have listened to it since it came out though but I didnt think it was too bad.

I wouldnt say Sgt Peppers was bland either, however its not all its made out to be in the sense that that The Beatles bettered it on a number of occasions I feel.

I do disagree with Radiohead. Its arguable that they had better albums but I can still thoroughly enjoy OK Computer. I can understand some of the terms that get thrown at them ie they are a bit depressing etc but I never thought they were bland.

I'm surprised you included Floyd. You dont like The Wall then?

Do you not like The Beach Boys either?

NMH and Talk Talk make music that is about the baring of ones soul. One band whinges about it. One band assimilates it, the other broods upon it. I know who i want to listen to.

Yes but the album in question is one that is a step outside. How many bands can make an album consisting of nothing but scat singing and still appeal to such a wide audience?

Those are the two that I can't get behind. The rest I either agree with or haven't heard.

Probably Radiohead, but they haven't done an album that would fit that bill quite yet.
