Nirvana/Radiohead
meh not for me Beatles Never understood the reverence... Parents never bought me up on them which is perhaps a reason, but overall I just find them incredibly boring. And I ain't gonna spout crap like 'But I can respect them' because really musical respect is pretty much based on how much I like em Doors - Used to love but they are like nails on a chalkboard nowadays... Zeppelin - If I ever have to hear STH again I might just shoot myself. EDIT - Add Sigur Ros... If ever there was music that could force me to sleep, this would be it... Godspeed is on the verge :p |

I'm much the same way. I like reading about bands and artists and if they appeal to me, then I give them a shot, even if I don't immediately like their sound. For this reason, most of the "new" music I discover is older stuff, albums that have already garnered critical acclaim for decades. When I listen to those albums, I know they are widely regarded as good and even if I don't immediately get them, I think it's exciting if/when I start to discover just why they are considered brilliant. I also listen to a lot of prog and prog albums tend to be growers, so I think maybe that can make you a more patient listener. You get used to having to play an album often quite a few times before it opens up to you.
Some of the biggest dolts out there I think are the people who need to define themselves and their taste in music by what they hate rather than what they like. Sometimes, all that does is showcase how close-minded and ignorant they are.

As for hating things, I'm similar to Piss Me Off. I don't really hate things anymore, I just simply ignore them or laugh at them. Honestly, do you know how boring life would be without some of the crap bands we have today. So many of these crap bands provide me with so much laughter, especially alot of hip hop and rap on MTV. Also, a common dislike for these bands can keep a group of people who would otherwise hate each other too distracted to do so. Last edited by Kamikazi Kat; 03-21-2009 at 01:28 PM. |
