Alfred sent me this and well... just really wasn't for me. The song writing was sub par which I found kind of interesting seeing as how he's the son of Bob Dylan, but I guess talent may skip a generation. I'm being a little overly harsh, the guitar parts were pretty well conceived but they quickly became repetitive and never really built up on anything. One song in particular just sounded like a Two Cow Garage song but with the edges filed down and declawed. I guess my biggest complaint was that it just sounded too safe, one of the things I've found as I dig deeper with the Gothic Americana is that the songs have this haunting tendency about them leaving you feeling kind of nervous, like you're not sure if you should really be enjoying the song, almost a guilt. Sorry Alfred, I just did not enjoy this album, however I can be hard to please at times, so don't let it get to you, I hope you enjoyed your album.

Elliot Brood "Ambassador"

I was expecting this album to be similar to 16 Horsepower, and, well, it was. It was that same kind of dark, alternative country sound that I knew and loved. But this was darker and more emotional than 16 Horsepower. The band is from Canada, but they could've fooled me. I was told that this is "something you'd expect to hear on some kind of violent dark western movie", and I think that's about accurate. I definitely enjoyed, and I'll probably give this a couple more spins.

I have been meaning to get more Pil, but my recent streak of dub and death metal has left me a dazed sop to be somewhat kind. Completely different from Metal Box and the debut, Public's "Flowers of Romance" sounds like an album a band makes when they're about blow their heads off onstage the next concert. But with a man such as John Lydon things never turn out as you predict them to be. The vocals are hardly recognizable to me, like a man cracking into dust as he moans into the depth of some very dark hallway, while bombastic drumming and other instuments are slammed together to form some primevil orchestration.

So yes I am enjoying this very much.

My apologies to BlueCadet for being a bit impatient. I kept forgetting that it was the Easter long weekend.

BlueCadet has sent me Black Moth Super Rainbow album Eating Us. They are a
new band for me and on one listen are a homage to Air. That is no bad thing at all considering that I am a huge fan of Air. I will revue properly after a few more listens.

^You'd definitely like their previous album too Dandelion Gum, its pretty similar in style to Eating Us.

4ZZZ sent me Dead Cities by The Future Sound of London. Its a techno album through a through albeit a pretty creative sounding one. To be honest though, this kind of music generally isnt my thing and while this is pretty good I dont find it to be great or anything. Definitely an interesting listen though and worth checking out.

Rezz sent me Jalamant by Brant Bjork in the last trading thing. This is the first album I've heard that's labeled as "stoner rock", and given how much I liked this I'll have to look further into that genre. It's really laid-back, mellow-ish rock music, and as people on RYM say it "is chill as hell" and "the ultimate album for just kicking back". I'd rate it 4.5/5 or so, it was really good.

Janszoon sent me From The Cradle To The Grave by Subhumans. It's pretty straight up british punk. On first listen the voice annoyed the hell outta me. But as I got into more I found really catchy, an a pretty good head-banger album. I don't think I'll look into more of thier work, but this album will get a few more spins if I ever want to jus rock out. Thanks buddy.

Aslo: Are we doing this this week? I'm in if so.
