Bulldog sent me Junkie XL's Music from SSX Blur. This album is music to accompany the snowboarding videogame SSX Blur and first off I'll say this is definitely soundtrack music. The whole record has a steady style to the songs that don't deviated too much from one to another. As with most games, the music sets a certain feeling that it tends to stick with. The album is very much party music. It's upbeat and danceable. As for the instrumentation, the songs revolve around the drum beat. Bulldog described this genre as 'Big Beat' so I can see how the label would be appropriate. The electronic element adds to the rhythmic role and provide accents. The tracks are carried by some enjoyable funk bass grooves that add to the dynamic of the music. Overall I'd say the songs were a bit too repetitive but as I stated it makes sense for what they were doing. I didn't find the music too memorable although not necessarily bad. It just isn't something I think I'd be dying to listen to again.
