The Underachievers - Lords of Flatbush
Sent to my by DJ Chameleon. (I am going to speak generally as I don't remember all of the track names) I have to say I liked this album, but it didn't blow me away. The production was nice and cloudy, but also had some bite to it. Not quite as polished as Clams Casino for sure, but he's a master. There was enough variety here for me to maintain interest and stopped it becoming predictable. The lyrics? Some tracks were on point, just not enough of them. I don't ask for much when it comes to cloud rap, I know what to expect and these are hardly awe-inspiring thought provoking bars - but who wants to think about shit all the time? They definitely have it within them to engage you on more than a sonic level, but there wasn't enough of it on here. However, you had some tracks that made me cringe. These were generally the songs with the worst beats (or maybe the lack of a great beat made me pay more attention to the lyrics, which resulted in me thinking they were worse?) and it kind of leaves you with a "meh" taste afterwards. Consistency is an issue here for sure. Overall, good album. Nothing special, unique or mind blowing - but solid, if you're into this thing. p.s. I should have listened to the album again but I don't have it with me.
