Noted and noted! So, including NumberNineDream's PM as well as myself, that's 4 members for the next draw. Let's delay it Wednesday eh.
And Mojo, sorry for the delay with giving you feedback on your album. I keep getting sidetracked somehow. Should be up later this evening. |

The Raveonettes - Whip It On
Me and the Raveonettes go waaaaaaaaay back... kinda. They first came to my attention a good 5 or 6 years ago when a few tunes of theirs would pop up on the music channels or radio back when I used to pay any attention to such things. I never got into them myself at the time, so when Mojo offered me this one, it felt like I was getting in touch with my roots again (to put it nice and pretentiously). I remember liking whatever songs I'd heard of theirs before this (can't remember which ones for the life of me) and, to my surprise, that good impression hadn't waned at all in all those years since. Basically, I loved the album. Normally shoegaze simply isn't my thing at all, but the combination with dirty, good old-fashioned garage rock really worked wonders with this one. I liked the deadpan vocal delivery as well. The whole thing reminded me a lot of early BRMC. Regarding favourite tracks, it's an almost seamless level of quality that runs throughout the album, but I'd say the middle trio Chains, Cops On Our Tail and My Tornado went down best with me. All in all, very good stuff. By the way, if we do only end up with four participants in the next draw (which is looking increasingly likely), we might as well just all swap albums between us. |

This week Numberninedream sent me the album Malesch by the German band Agitation Free. The majority of the material is instrumental experiemental rock tinged with psychedelia and Middle Eastern melodies said to have influenced the band while they were visiting Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus. Each track has a little something different to offer and fortunately they don’t seem to linger on a jam past it’s welcome. I'd think my favorite song is Rücksturz just because that lead guitar line is so catchy. The bonus live set tagged onto the end of the album was also a nice touch. My only gripe is that the song Sahara City had some skipping on it as if it were ripped from a scratched CD. Not a big deal but I do like the album so I'll probably try and track down another copy. Overall very good album. By the way, N9D, that Soap Kills album is really good too, haven't had a chance to listen to the other yet. Thanks again. |

Btw, if you're still in the mood for some of the oriental sounds, I've been delving a lot into the local underground scene. I can send you some links if I found anything in that style.
