Storymilo sent me Operation: Mindcrime by Queensrÿche. I really like the first person point of view the album starts off with. It sounds very promising of a somewhat interactive experience but it’s basically just an intro. I don’t listen to a lot Queensrÿche but upon first impression they seem to be one of those Def Leppard/Iron Maidon type spandex rock bands and what I gather from The Vandals’ lyrics, they have mullets. Sadly there aren’t any more moments like the opening track trough the album. This really isn’t my kind of music, I just find it way too cheeseball. My dislike for the music prevented me from really focusing on the lyrics but I imagine it is mostly about a 1984-esque theme. Sorry storymilo but I just can’t love Queensrÿche, at least not today.

Stonebirds sent me The Ruminant Band by Fruit Bats a few weeks ago. The first couple listens didn’t really do anything for me. There was nothing I disliked about the music, there was just nothing that really stood out to me. It can be best described as folk, indie with a country touch at times. After I listened to it more I started to enjoy some of the lyrics and vocal melodies more and more. It was an album that took a bit of time to grow on me. I still don’t think the album is especially great but it was still a positive experience.

Basically when my friend and I were just getting into music the Misfits were one of the main bands we’d listen to. It was the same time we were starting to play music and the Ramones and Misfits basically taught us how. We’d spend hours upon hours in his parents’ basement playing out power chord driven punk songs then recording our accomplishments on makeshift cassette and VHS recording setups.

This week Fasho sent me The Misfits’ album Static Age. Now although I had heard many of the songs off of it, it was in a time were getting music over the Internet wasn’t so easy, even record store were almost two hours away, so I never heard the album in its entirety. I’d say this is my favorite record by the group. Starting off with ‘Static Age’, one of my favorites, it has a certain groove and swagger created by the Danzig’s vocal melody and the steady driving drumbeat. The album moves through so many classic tracks like Last Caress, Hybrid Moments, We Are 138 and Bullet. To me this is like ¾ of a greatest hits album. There are a few low points but overall it’s an excellent album.

I think I'm caught up with my reviews now.
