Well, I received Fielding by Hala Strana from Terrible Lizard and this my attempt at a review.
TL and I both sent each other a handful of links to choose from, and I decided on this mainly because I was curious as to why he thought I might already own this particular album. It's an instrumental album, featuring experimental folk, drawing inspiration from traditional eastern european music. There are some very interesting compositions on this album, and though his material is based and formed around ancient techniques, the music is strikingly original and impressive on the whole. I'm left very happy with my selection. |
are we supposed to send a bunch of choices?
i've just been sending one album because i thought that was the point, that it was a surprise? |
Yeah, probably broke the rules with that one. I just sent a few albums because I had no idea what he actually listens to.

Dreadnaught gave three intriguing choices, but out of all of them St. Vincent's Marry Me surprised me the most. Whether it's pop, or cabaret, or even a stepford housewife-esque industrial relish. This record shattered my expectations entirely, fantastic.

FaSho sent me (last week):
http://thelifeofriley.squarespace.co...l-struggle.jpg Talib Kweli - Beautiful Struggle This album is a very good album lyically. I had problems getting into some of the beats. Kweli is definately a good flow artist, sitting on the fence between hardcore gangsta rap that doesn't appeal to intelligent hip-hop fans, and intellectual rhymes which normally don't appeal to the 'gangstas'. Kweli has made an album here that can appeal to both crowds equally. Keeping his rhymes tight, meaningful, and intelligent. Yet not giving up any of his street cred. Overall a decent hip-hop album I don't plan on deleting. 6.8/10 |
