Oh fuck. I think I accidentally sent you a fake mashup version of the album that leaked a few weeks before the real one dropped.

If Pink Sabbath didn't sound like this, and was a spastic bastardization of Sweet Leaf by Black Sabbath, expect another PM shortly with the real one.

Well sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit.

The mashup one is hilarious though. I confused the hell out of me when I downloaded it by accident.

It was... interesting. Is the whole album different or just that one song?

The whole album is kickass mathy-post-hardcore, in vein of what I just posted.

Bulldog sent me Junkie XL's Music from SSX Blur. This album is music to accompany the snowboarding videogame SSX Blur and first off I'll say this is definitely soundtrack music. The whole record has a steady style to the songs that don't deviated too much from one to another. As with most games, the music sets a certain feeling that it tends to stick with. The album is very much party music. It's upbeat and danceable. As for the instrumentation, the songs revolve around the drum beat. Bulldog described this genre as 'Big Beat' so I can see how the label would be appropriate. The electronic element adds to the rhythmic role and provide accents. The tracks are carried by some enjoyable funk bass grooves that add to the dynamic of the music. Overall I'd say the songs were a bit too repetitive but as I stated it makes sense for what they were doing. I didn't find the music too memorable although not necessarily bad. It just isn't something I think I'd be dying to listen to again.

You didn't do so bad, considering it was your first go at the genre and all

Now, let's see what my present was...

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Drippers EP

I picked this one out of the selection +81 offered me simply because I liked their name. Often it's musical gambles like that which are very rewarding for folk like me, and this EP was no exception to that rule. Seeing as I chose these guys at random, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. What I ended up with was a fascinating 9-track EP with an electronic core and psychedelic vocal effects and reverb along with chillout vibes. The result is an experiment which to these ears really worked. While I tend to prefer livelier rhythms these days, this was still a very good album indeed and certainly something I'd recommend as well.

All in all, top stuff. Cheers

Choice tracks: Black Yoghurt, One Day I Had An Extra Toe, Just For the Night [BMSR Remix]

I'll glad you liked it, Bulldog. Feel free to recommend more Big Beat stuff to cut my teeth on. I'm willing to learn.

Fun fact: Mike Watt played bass on Black Yogurt.

Crikey, he's been around. I haven't heard many of the projects he's had his hand in, but I do know that at least.

If you're up for some more big beat, Wreckage by Overseer's a good starting point, probably better than the album I sent your way. It's sounds a bit like the Junkie XL album you heard but with more breaks, more vocals and some metallic riffs to spice things up. If you want an up, it's still on my mediafire page, so just let me know eh
