Nice one.

If I'm not going out tonight I'll have something for you a bit later this evening.

Sidewinder sent me this album by trip hop artist Sixtoo. I gotta say I was pretty impressed as I was always aware of the album, whereas other trip hop artists tend to become background white noise. That's what trip hop is to me, background noise and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for the album though, I hope you liked Bjorn Berge.

Wait...so do you like it or not? Kind of hard to tell as your post suggests you were pretty impressed, but then you say that other trip hop turns into background white noise...and that's how you like it. Seems contradictory.

I just started playing Bjørn Berge for the first time now.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

I liked it, what I was saying is that unlike other trip hop that becomes white noise, this defines itself and stays with me, a positive trait in music.

Exuma - Exuma I Fire

I don't think that's the record's cover, but it's a very fitting image regardless. This is, in Gunnel's words , 'Some obscure late 60's carribean freak-folk!' and he did a good job of sending me something outside my regular listening habbits.

Unfortunately I didn't engage with the album that much. Generally the thing that will draw me into a folk record is the guitar work. And this is where the album lets me down, because on most tracks it's focused on percussion, which is pretty understandable for Brazilian folk but doesn't always appeal to me. Especially when you couple it with the less than stellar production.

The freak element leads to some fairly wacky arrangements some of which work (Junkanoo), but at other times they throw musicality to the winds (Seance in the Sixth Fret). The more conservative tracks are generally stronger, I'd say Mama Loi, Papa Loi and You Don't Know What's Going On are excellent.

Overall I'd give it 5/10. An decent record that just isn't really my thing.
