Its way different though. I have to agree though the beginning of the first disc is the most epic start one could ever want.

Rory Gallagher - Top Priority

jtwilliams sent me Rory Gallagher - Top Priority. When initially discussing each others tastes and what we would like to hear, he told me he particularly enjoyed blues and, as it's something I haven't listened to a whole lot of, I decided to try whatever he'd like to send me.

From the bit of research I've done, it appears that this is one of Gallagher's more hard rock oriented albums, but there's still an obvious blues influence in his guitar playing. I've never been one to enjoy hard rock as the majority of it seems to be, to me, a bit boring and generic. This, however, manages to mostly avoid that problem.

While I can't say Top Priority is one of the most memorable or remarkable albums I've heard, it is still fairly enjoyable. He certainly knows what he's doing on the guitar, but some points in the music are a bit forgettable and you get the feeling you've heard this sort of thing done a lot (though it's done overall pretty well here). It's nice music that's pretty easy to listen to at any time, but it doesn't attempt to change your life or really wow you (or at least it didn't for me). It sounds basically exactly like you'd expect from blues rock/hard rock. Can't say I will listen incredibly frequently, but it's probably worth hearing on occasion.

3.5/5

^^ Love that album. Rory kinda helped kick off the hard rock and blues rock scenes but he's not really known enough. He did beat out Eric Clapton for musician of the year in an international poll in 1972

Anways an update: Just got my album to listen downloaded a couple mins ago.

Jaga Jazzist - One-Armed Bandit sent by The Abominable Homan
will post back later with my review

Hope you enjoy it, since you wanted to check out jazz I figured it was a pretty good pick; it might be best to try something a little atypical of the whole genre (just to show more of a range than the expected sound) and I wanted something that wasn't a really obvious classic you hear about everywhere.

I got this from The Abominable Homan in this weeks trading post:

Jaga Jazzist - One-Armed Bandit

8.5/10

First off let me say this was a venture out of the norm for me. Usually I can't stay interested long enough to listen to instrumentals. I do not know why.
However, I did listen to this whole album start to finish and I actually did pay attention to it all. Pleasantly so. I think this could be the album that gets me into instrumental stuff. I find it is easier to write with instrumental music playing. And I am trying to write a book so this really helps me.

Anyway enough rambling. I really enjoyed this album. I am still new to this kind of music, but these guys sound pretty damn talented to me.
I would recommend this to people who like instrumental music, jazz music or experimental music. I would also say this is a good place to start if you are trying to get into this kind of music.

To finish up here, this is going to stay in my Itunes and I will probably put it on my playlist I play when I am going to sleep. It is quite relaxing. Also I am going to start an Instrumental/Study/Writing playlist and this is going on it.

So Thanks The Abominable Homan!

So, that's 6 of 14 reviews in, and 50% of them by the time I get mine done tomorrow. I think I'll set the deadline for this bunch at next Wednesday if that sounds cool with everyone - give those of you who've done your bit plenty of time to think about joining in the next swap.
