J and J Present: How To [Blank] In 7 Easy Tracks
Due to a shared taste in music, Jackhammer and I thought it might be fun to do a collaborative mix thread. Here's how it works:
Jackhammer's "Seven Songs To Get In a Barroom Brawl To" Mix 1. Gogol Bordello—"I Would Never Wanna Be Young Again" 2. The Hives—"Outsmarted" 3. Oasis—"Bring It On Down" 4. Capdown—"Cousin Cleotis" 5. Mighty Mighty Bosstones—"What's At Stake?" 6. Roni Size—"Streets" 7. Stone Temple Pilots—"Heaven And Hot Rods" Janszoon's "Seven Songs To Get In a Barroom Brawl To" Mix 1. The Misfits—"Devilock" 2. Motorhead—"The Hammer" 3. Scratch Acid—"Monsters" 4. Rocket from the Crypt—"Birdman" 5. The Distillers—"Bullet & the Bullseye" 6. Probot—"Access Babylon" 7. Atari Teenage Riot—"Fuck All" |
I love the idea! Downloading now.
|
Yay! How exciting. I can't wait to see what y'all come up with.
|
Big props for the inclusion of Motorhead's 'The Hammer' on Janszoon's mix and you can't beat some Atari Teenage Riot. I was very nearly going to put some Mad Capsule Markets in my comp who are like a noisier version of ATR.
Members can suggest themes for the comps, even if it's bizzare i'm sure we can find some music for any occasion! |
I was thinking of making my own comp like this a while back in the Ten Track Compilation Thread. I was gonna make one "Ten Tracks To Play Call Of Duty To".
|
Great idea this, and some very good selections you've got there too. I was actually thinking of doing a drinking songs comp for the mixtape thread myself - have a go at that if you particularly want to :)
|
Definitely a nice idea this! I'll give it a go and comment which worked better for me and why. As for future ideas - how about "Seven Songs To Get A Nightmare To".
|
Seven songs to ban people to.
|
7 songs to do homework to.

Lets get some feedback on the current comps before we go for the next comp.

I was thinking lamenting..but "feck off" sounds pretty great too. lol

I'm just going to review the songs I have something to say about. Because it's late and I'm feeling too lazy to come up with 14 decent responses.
Jackhammer's: 1. Gogol Bordello—"I Would Never Wanna Be Young Again" Hahaha. This reminded me of the Russian guy in the movie Wristcutters. It made me want to go build a city of cardboard boxes and then smash it. 3. Oasis—"Bring It On Down" I could never fight to Oasis, but I like this song and I didn't have it so thank you. :) 6. Roni Size—"Streets" This sounds like something I would have put on my basketball team's warm-up mix. It has a cool beat and although I'm not much of a fighter but I could brawl to this. Or just do a really cool Angry Dance. 7. Stone Temple Pilots—"Heaven And Hot Rods" I like STP. That's all I have to say. Janszoon's: 1. The Misfits—"Devilock" I could definitely see an epic fight take place with this song in the background. I'm seeing beer bottles flying everywhere, people getting flipped over the bar... WHOO, RIOT! 3. Scratch Acid—"Monsters" Totally not my personal taste but I can dig it. 5. The Distillers—"Bullet & the Bullseye" OH MAN I WANT TO BREAK STUFF! 7. Atari Teenage Riot—"Fuck All" Epic. I probably should have done this review earlier in the day when I was feeling more pumped up, so I apologize if it's less than satisfactory. But good job, guys. I look forward to more. |
Glad you liked them wolverinewolfweiselpigeon!

Also, the comps were great. I need some ATR for sure. |
Jackhammer:
1. Gogol Bordello - I Would Never Wanna Be Young Again Hehehe, I could imagine how this would turn out! Makes me want to pick up that beer bottle and smash something. 2. The hives - Outsmarted Not as epic as the first song, but still works. 3. Oasis - Bring It on Down I'm not really sure how this will turn out. 4. Capdown - Cousin Cleotis This certainly will bring out the worst! Everyone would want to show their special 'drunken moves' which they apparently learnt. From Kung Fu to Boxing, you'll see them all here! 5. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - What's at Stake I think the song name sums it up well. What's at Stake . 6. Roni Size - The Streets Might see me exchanging words with this, but that's about it! On a positive note, that should start a fight I suppose. 7. stone temple pilots - heaven and hot rods Tempting...it's like that person I hate has just entered and I'm in a really pissed off mood. Still, something seems to be missing that's preventing me. Janszoon: 1. The Misfits - Devilock Someone owes you something and it's payback time! 2. Motörhead - The Hammer The Hammer is definitely gonna smash your dream and make you die. It's like one of those one sided fights. 3. Scratch Acid - Monsters Would work between two psychos I suppose. I liked this song a lot though. 4. Rocket From The Crypt - Birdman I couldn't get a word he was trying to say, but it certainly sounds angry! Whoa, someone is goona get hurt real bad. 5. The Distillers - Bullseye Think I'll just get a bit overconfident and hurt myself with this. Should have just brought my gun instead. 6. Probot - Access Babylon Again, I'm not really sure how this will turn out. 7. Atari Teenage Riot - **** All Chaos would be the order of the day! Barroom Brawl party anyone? The waiters would just sit back and watch the show. Something might come flying their way too :D. Overall, I think Jackhammer's would have worked a bit better, but oh well. Still enjoyed the show. |
Next Comp
Alright, it's just about time for a new comp. I'm nominating nonsubmissivewife's "Seven Songs To Break Up To" and Jackhammer has nominated Demonoid's "Seven Songs To Have a Nightmare To". We're going to cut the voting time to just one day this time around so post which one of these two options you'd like and we'll each get those comp up right quick. |
Have a Nightmare to definatley, Idon't doubt JH could get some genuinely scary stuff.
|
C'mon peeps. What do you want to hear next?
|
I vote "songs to have a nightmare to".
|
Obviously I'm going to vote for the one I helped come up with...but "Seven songs to have a nightmare to" sounds pretty bad ass.

Seven Songs To Have a Nightmare To
This idea (thanks Demonoid!) was the winner by a landslide. So here you have it, a mix from each of us based around the nightmare theme. Hope you enjoy them and let us know what you think! Janszoon's "Seven Songs To Have a Nightmare To" Since my nightmares range from intense and terrifying to brooding and disturbing, I went in a couple different directions with these songs in terms of mood. Tracklist: 1. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum—"Sleep Is Wrong" 2. Pig Destroyer—"Towering Flesh" 3. Daisy Chainsaw—"Lovely Ugly Brutal World" 4. Sunn 0)))—"0))) Bow 1" 5. Godflesh—"Almost Heaven" (Helldub) 6. Skinny Puppy—"Reclamation" 7. Swans—"Killing for Company" Jackhammer's "Seven Songs To Have a Nightmare To" Jackhammer asked me to mention that the glitches on track 5 are part of the song and not a problem with the file or anything. Tracklist: 1. Lightning Bolt—"30,000 Monkies" (Peel Session) 2. Bong Ra—"Slaytronic" 3. Martin Grech—"Dali" 4. Hawkwind—"Utopia" 5. Dead Machines—"Futures Pt.4" 6. Throbbing Gristle—"Maggot Death" (Studio Version) 7. Celtic Frost—"Danse Macabre" |
Isn't it a bit ironic that your temporal lobe (and summarily auditory sense) is inactive during REM sleep?
