Once again it looks like we both went in pretty different directions with this one and made soundtracks for two totally different kinds of desert. Enjoy! I know I'm really looking forward to giving Jackhammer's a listen.

Janszoon's Seven Songs To Drive Across The Desert To

1. Tom Waits—"Goin' Out West"
2. Chris Connelly—"Come Down Here"
3. Torrez—"La Hora Dulce"
4. PJ Harvey—"Dry"
5. Lhasa De Sela—"El Payande"
6. Tomahawk—"Aktion F1413"
7. Earth—"An Inquest Concerning Teeth"

Jackhammer's Seven Songs To Drive Across The Desert To

1. Muslimgauze—"Abu Nidal"
2. Larry Heard—"Precious Tears"
3. James Asher—"Red Desert"
4. Da Lata—"Pra Mahna"
5. Lisa Gerard—"Indus"
6. Orange Blossom—"Habibi"
7. A.R.Rahman—"Mumbai Theme Tune"
I'd have picked that Tom Waits song as well, and a bit of Peej too, niiiice. I've said it before but Goin' Out West is easily the coolest song in existence.

I'll get through these as soon as.

Heh. I swear I didn't just pick the PJ Harvey song for the desert comp because it's called "Dry".

Sorry it took me so long to give feedback on your comp, Jackhammer. I was wanted to give it a second listen after the multi-day headache I had went away. Anyway, I thought it was a great comp! Here's a little song by song reaction:

"Abu Nidal"—Great way to start off the mix. This sounds way different from the one Muslimgauze album I have but equally good.

"Precious Tears"—The beginning of this song totally reminds me of the beginning of "All Night Long" by Stereo MCs. I liked the song a lot though I have to admit it wasn't all that evocative of a desert for me.

"Red Desert"—I dug how mellow this one was.

"Pra Mahna"—I loved this one though, once again, it didn't really make me think of the desert. It actually kind of reminded me of Brazilian tropicalia.

"Indus"—Great track. Very atmospheric and evocative. I had very vivid images of wind whipping across Saharan dunes at dusk when I listened to it.

"Habibi"—I thought "Indus" flowed into this track really well. And it's a great song on it's own. It made me think of flying of the desert in a helicopter or something.

"Mumbai Theme Tune"—Great outro song. It's like the end of the day in some ancient desert village.

Pra Mahna was a complete **** up on my part and I think I wrote the wrong track down to be included I must have 20 or 30 pieces of paper next to the comp with compilation/album lists lol I will chuck the muslimgauze along via PM ASAP.

So, I've decided to express my feelings on each "Desert" comp with a picture.

Janszoon:

Need....water....It made me feel parched. I thought it was perfect! Fave tracks were 'El Payande' and 'Goin' Out West'. It's funny because I've never really have been able to get into Tom Waits, but the more I listened to this song the more I loved it. Best song on this comp IMO.

Jackhammer:

Fave tracks were 'Habibi' and 'Mumbai Theme Tune'. I was immediately drawn to 'Habibi' simply because I have quite a few Arabic friends who've taught me a few words, and so I actually knew what habibi meant! And it turned out to be a beautiful song, my favorite one on here.

Janzoon i thought yours was very deserty so did very well, the Chris Connelly song worked really well in particular. For a PJ Harvey song i would have used Ecstacy

Jack's didn't really hit me, it was a bit too world music for me. Not that it was particularly bad music but i did find myself switching off a few times.

So... anyone have any thoughts on a new comp idea? I still wouldn't mind doing nonsubmissivewife's idea from way back for a comp of break up songs (or even a more general "fuck off" songs comp), but I'm open for whatever.
