yep. damn we are cool.

it was just some old cassettes he recorded his doo wop/rock 'n roll hits compilations on to. Great balls of fire, tutti frutti, all that shizz... didn't find out the artists for years

Heh. I have really similar memories of the Everly Brothers. My dad had some really, really long best of cassette of theirs that we always used to listen to in his pickup truck when I was tagging along on trips to construction sites with him. A couple other tapes I also remember him listen to a lot were Endless Summer by the Beach Boys and that Rolling Stones best of album that had the picture of the head inside the head inside the head on the cover.

Jackhammer's Seven Songs To Look Out Over A Neon-Lit City At Night To
I don't live in a big city but I always imagine staring out from a huge glass fronted apartment building. High up looking at the busy city at night, tunes playing and a glass of whisky whilst in wistful contemplation. Here are those tunes:

1. Charles Mingus—"Goodbye Pork Pie Hat"
2. Fishbone—"Pouring Rain"
3. Mike Figgis—"Leaving Las Vegas"
4. Silversun Pickups—"Rusted Wheel"
5. John Martyn—"Go Down Easy"
6. Everything But The Girl—"No Difference"
7. Lloyd Cole—"Downtown"

The title of the comp says it all for me really but a word of warning: track six is actually my old band. Normally I wouldn't be so lame as to put one of my own songs in one of these but that song is basically about the exact subject of this particular comp so I couldn't resist. It was recorded and mixed by yours truly in the livingroom of my old apartment so it's a lot rougher around the edges than all the other tracks. Hope it's not too distracting. At the very least I hope the rest of the songs are enjoyable.

1. Morphine—"The Night"
2. Pram—"Penny Arcade"
3. The Church—"Louisiana"
4. Suicide—"Harlem"
5. Stereo MC's—"Unconcious"
6. Krill>Whale>Human—"Lake Shore Drive"
7. Meg Lee Chin—"Deeper"

Time and time again we go on different tangents with these comps which can only be a good thing! At last I have heard some of your music (sorry I just can't do myspace) and I liked that church track. I know you were threatening me with them before. May have to take you up on that offer now :D

Downloading both, i'm intrigued to hear Janzoons band!

I have family in town visiting right now so I haven't had a chance to listen to Jackhammer's comp until just now. Good stuff man! I knew that I knew the Mingus song going in but after listening to the whole mix I was shocked to discover that I also knew the Lloyd Cole song, though I'm not sure from where. I think my favorite track was "Rusted Wheel". I've never heard of Silversun Pickups but I think I'm going to have to look into these guys. :)

I do like the way you two interpret the topic so differently, Lee's was just like he said, looking over the city with a strong drink in hand while Janzoon's gave me images of some sci-fi city in the future, the electro tracks worked well. Your band wasn't what i was expecting at all but it was pretty good, did remind me of Suicide funnily enough!

I'm happy you liked them both! That's funny the track reminded you of Suicide because I didn't really listen to them back when I recorded that song. I love them now though so I'll take it as a compliment. :)

Suicide are a pretty new discovery for me but i'm absolutely mesmerised by them.

They're a great band. I bought the first album a while ago but I didn't really like it at first. In the past year or two it finally clicked with me and now I love it. I got the second album and A Way of Life in the past couple months and have really getting into those lately as well.
