On the other hand, I remember when I was in my twenties it blew my mind how people could identify jazz standards so quickly. Now I can do that pretty damn well for a non-musician.

Ah well I'm not one of those people who keeps that many in my head :P The reasons I know the Liszt Sonata so well are because it's (probably) his greatest work and I was obsessed with the composer, and also because I was a teenager at the time and teenagers have an easier time memorising things. These days, even though I'm only a few years older, it takes more work and, indeed, many classical works do take a long time to get to know, especially for someone as average as myself. I find very large-scale composers like Mahler, and ones with extremely dense motivic/contrapuntal development, to be very difficult and they can take awhile. The rewards are, however, enormous.

I love kid cudi is diversity he makes such cool music with cool samples but adding his originality to it, and his soulful lyrics. doesn't make trash like these other rappers.
