Not a massive fan of this stripped down style of indie rock/twee-pop or whatever, but they do it really well for me.

Yeah, Jack Johnson was another one that was recommended to me (along with that aforementioned In A Silent Way and Live Evil). Since I listen to rock for the most part that may be a good way into Davis' discography.

Nice to see you around again by the way.
It's children singing old spirituals. The Child Development Group of Mississippi was founded by a Head Start grant (thus the name of the album) as a day care center for children of civil rights workers and activists living in the state. It's one of the many wonderful Smithsonian Folkways releases.

I've always preferred On Avery Island by a mile, but there's better contemporary folk and weird indie rock noise fusions floating around than both, for sure.

What you're looking for is the Baroque Jazz Trio's self-titled and Chainsaw Jazz's DisConcerto on the more obscure side of things, and if you want something completely ridiculously loud and more "jazz-inspired noise rock" go for Midori's あらためまして、はじめまして、ミドリです。.

Also, working on this beast right now:

Hey, long time no see. I thought you were gone for good. Good to see a member of your caliber returning.

This whole album is great. My brother was listening to some fusion and I told him to turn it on. He appreciated it.

Sleepy Time Gorilla Museum - Of Natural history

I'd heard the band name thrown around for years but had never actually listened to them, regretting that right about now. I'll probably spend the next few days checking out their discography.
