Polished, hairless, premature nutsack covers of songs that are supposed to be distorted and jagged.

They're supposed to be distorted?

No no not the production quality, the style. Hendrix's natural style was a distorted yelping guitar which skipped along a sawblade scream and a bluesy guffaw. SRV tries to copy this with the cover, and like the many other white guitarists who do this they end up doing it wrong.

Fuze could probably overcome the original because he plays everything in this schizophrenic yappering jazz riff which would twist Voodoo Child to sound completely different from the original song.

I didnt mean the production quality, I meant the style. The thing with a cover is you should be able to do with it whatever you want, should you not? What would be the point in recycling it? Whether or not he tried to imitate Hendrix's style is arguable, maybe he did but just because he didnt make it sound "distorted" or "jagged" is really irrelevant and shouldnt be the basis of anyones opinion. When I listen to both of those tracks, especially Little Wing it makes me realise that there is potential in both to be so much more.

And for the record, I like the originals. I also think Hendrix was the better guitarist.

the long-awaited (four years since that classic creative spree) MF Doom album has got me going back listening to all his records and comparing them... he's undoubtedly one of a kind on the mic and he's an amazing producer too.

My personal fave of his canon is split between the Viktor Vaughn album Vaudeville Villain and his cheaply-produced 2000 debut. The new one's good by common standards but for him it's just a bit short, inconsistent and Ghostface ruins his track with cliches; although I do like the levels on it with the vocals to the fore... Doom can still put me in a head-bopping trance with his flow and lyrics, just brilliant really.

LISTENNNN (star trek references ftw)

MANIC STREET PREACHERS - SLASH 'N BURN
Back before the Manics got comfortable settling into their old age with mediocre ballad writing and wrote intense, explosive, riff based punk music. Back when the Manics had some balls. Plus I always enjoy watching footage of the band from this era, seeing Richey Edwards on rhythm guitar even though he couldnt play a note and just knowing he wasnt even plugged in.

f*cking badman!! I love early Manics to pieces. Especially this album and the Holy Bible. Gold Against the Soul hasn't aged so well for me... it may be really overblown and more than a little silly but it still delivers.
