I looked up the lyrics (of course) and still couldn't decide what the deep message may be. "We are night sky, we are god's eye at the shore of tears yet to be cried." I think it is saying we are life and death all rolled into one, and sorrows of the past will continue. I also think the song may be kind of like a drug-induced vision of reality, so I don't think it makes much sense or is intended to. It may be one of those songs that tries to be deep by inspiring people to come up with their own interpretations. I listened again and decided I think the guitar-playing is mind-numbingly tedious because of the boring chords. I don't like the song at all, really. The more I listen to it, the less I like it. And I *know* I hate the way the guy just goes on and on saying "Evil Friend evil friend evil friend evil friend." The song is even more repetitive than I originally realized. Okay. Next.

I think the image is just a plain old avian skull of some kind. Probably a blackbird, and considering the beak size and shape, my guess is a raven. If I'm not mistaken crows have a larger, slightly more curved beak than common ravens who have smaller, straighter beaks. I'm not sure about magpie beaks. Whoever made the video included a bunch of other non bird cranial pics as well. Knowing Dax and his fans, the bird skull image is probably that of a raven. But watch the entire thing to see for yourself.
Dax Riggs is currently one of my favorite musicians and I'm only just now exploring "Deadboy and the Elephantmen". He previously worked with some other favorites of mine and I've only recently delved into this band's work. I have long love for Acid Bath and his solo "Dax Riggs" project. This band is certainly the 'lightest', most folky incarnations of his but I enjoy it. I hadn't noticed repetitiveness. The laid-back acoustic guitar and female vocal accompaniment is a pretty severe departure from his other music. He's clearly still got a demon tied to a chair in his brain, though. He's possibly my favorite American singer / songwriter.

I like the idea of a demon being tied to a chair in his brain. Is that a song lyric? If not, I will steal it. I'll watch the video again and pay more attention to the bird skulls! I thought crows' beaks were *smaller* than ravens' beaks. The skull definitely isn't a raven's skull. I looked up raven skull pictures: Common Raven Corvus corax. Length of skull: 4.7 inches. http://www.azdrybones.com/birds.htm I don't think it is a blackbird's skull, either, because here's one of those: The mystery of the video-skull for "Evil Friend" deepens! My guess is that it is some kind of song bird's skull, because of the dainty beak. Were you standing while in your song-induced trance? If you sit down while trancing, then you can transfer the pain to a different body part.

Now, THAT song I like, especially the transition to the rough part at the end, which is a very effective musical representation of the concept of the song.

The Briefs - "Orange Alert"
I am in a punk mood and am enjoying their energetic, upbeat songs infused with mild criticism about society, such as this song that I see as a commentary upon the fact that we have color-coded alerts to notify us of public threats. I especially like the lines, "We live in fear, the end is near, and we are easy to control," because I think it is true that fear keeps people subjugated and stops them from questioning. The Briefs - "Move Too Slow" A silly song -- I have little idea what it is about, really -- but I like the cheerful sound.
