I also listened to Vladimir Horowitz playing the same piece, since I read that he and Richter both were considered by many to be among the greatest pianists.
Here's some sad info about Horowitz, from wiki: "Despite rapturous receptions at recitals, Horowitz became increasingly unsure of his abilities as a pianist. On several occasions, the pianist had to be pushed onto the stage." It's hard to imagine having such self-doubts, isn't it, since he sounded like this:
I realized I've never seen a picture of Chopin, so I looked him up:
I used to hate this song and think his voice sounded doctored. I loved the acoustic version though....

Chopin's Etude Opus 25 no. 11 does remind me of some very icy winter walks through blizzards.
The piece starts off quiet and cool like a still winter afternoon, the calm before the storm. Then a BLAST of winter wind arrives, carrying snow down from the sky, which is what I imagine when I hear the motif of rapidly descending notes repeated often throughout the piece.
The etude also feels powerful and unnerving to me, like the winter wind, with the notes occasionally rapidly rising or falling to give the feeling of a chaotic flurry as the wind hits you from several directions in quick succession.
Not knowing many of Chopin's pieces, I cheated by listening first to this youtube video... I like the strong, determined low sound of the left hand contrasting but harmonizing with the fast, light, fluttering notes of the right, combining to make the song sound both sweet and majestic to me:

That's a pretty funny way of phrasing it considering that I'm 99% sure that song is about masturbation. :p:
*Ahem* Anyway, I do agree that he's pretty spunky, though I also think he's kind of underrated in terms of what a terrific vocalist he is. He's really quite the crooner, especially on his slower songs. I'm especially partial to this one:
