Oh, for sure, just add some tasteful psychedelic guitar shredding and yeah, you basically have Ozric Tentacles. I'm also a big fan of their work.

Beach Boys - All I Wanna Do

This song almost makes me like Mike Love (*shivers*). Anticipating chillwave by decades.

Yes, it was written by Brian & Mike and Brian later sort of disowned it, saying he didn't like it. (Brian has a habit of disliking BB songs I love e.g., "Let Him Run Wild"). Mike's vocals on this song are less nasally than usual, and I'd read somewhere (maybe I'm recalling incorrectly?) that the song was more his own creation than Brian's. Although I should be crediting Carl most of all because he produced it (with some Brian assistance) and ultimately it's the production that wins me over.

So maybe I don't like Mike Love after all. Which I don't.

I always wondered about the Brian Wilson/Mike Love songwriting partnership. It always seemed to me as if Brian would write the music and melodies, while Love would write the lyrics. I suppose there are exceptions, but I think it's safe to assume that 9/10 it's Brian "writing the song".

I love that track too btw, I've been listening to this track fairly regularly since I discovered it three or four years back.

So if it so happens that it's Mike Love who actually wrote it, well then,

Joyful Noise, a label out of Indianapolis that releases a lot of interesting music, had a CD close out sale that ended on December 31, 2022. I found out about it right before the end of the year and ordered three CDs I'm currently listening to: Half Japanese's Overjoyed and Perfect, along with Yes, a joint project of Half Japanese's leader Jad Fair and Norman Blake. Good stuff.
