If you haven't already, check out the album after this one, Salutations. He re-recorded Ruminations with a cast of musicians to "flesh out" the acoustic version of Ruminations. Gillian Welch, Felice Brothers, M. Ward and Jim James among a slew of other musicians also appear on the album.

Plus there are 7 new songs on Salutations. Worth a listen.

Lastly, check out his duet album with Phoebe Bridgers under the name Better Oblivion Community Center. I thoroughly enjoyed that one too.

I also prefer Ruminations to Salutations because like you I prefer a more stripped down sound, particularly in the Folk/Americana genre. So I'm in agreement with you there.

But since I personally know Conor (hence I'm biased), I know that he's always pushing things, even to his own detriment sometimes, to experiment for better or worse. Sometimes it works, other times not. It's what makes Conor, Conor. He's a bastardly stubborn fellow sometimes, but he means well.
