Grizzly Bear Yellow House One of my favorite albums dating back to when I was in HS. Recorded in an old farm house. Very intimate recording. Gregory Alan Isakov The Empty Northern Hemisphere This has the same feel as Horse Feathers with the wispy gentle vocals and light instrumental structures. I always found the above song to be quite beautiful but the rest of the album can come across as too hipster folk for some I reckon. Bonnie Prince Billy I See a Darkness I avoided Bonnie Prince Billy for years because I disliked his name and thought it'd just be another Devendra Banhart who I hate but it's f*cking Will Oldham! He's alright and basically right up the Horse Feathers alley. |

I have a favorable impression of Grizzly Bear but don’t remember that record. Am familiar with the BPB but it’s been awhile.

Their albums after Yellow House were too by the book indie folk for my taste. Yellow House has soul. It's sparse in parts and save for "Knife", has a full album of non-derivative fresh tracks. "Knife" is alright but you can tell it was written to be their "hit" and subsequently the track that garnered a music video. I usually skip it although it's not a bad song by any means. The rest of the album just has more punch and some very quiet and poignant moments.

Doesn’t change that it’s a damn good record though.
