Sweetie, I'm pretty sure every city harbours music fanatics in unlikely places. That's great though, randomly running into cool people is a lovely thing

Have you listened to any other Fred Frith projects? Massacre, Henry Cow, Art Bears, solo stuff, etc?

Austin is pretty big but honestly...nah. ****ing empty cultural wastelands out there.

There is a huge difference in culture between cities, definitely. It isn't any different in Europe, just that the places with culture are relatively closer because everything is smaller. But when you're in England without a car/drivers license and in a fairly dull city, the nearest cultural hotspot might as well be on the other side of the ocean. Quite a contrast to Amsterdam, that's the only thing I miss about Holland. But I think in most places you can find cool culture if you dig deep enough. At least that's what I'm telling myself, it might be wishful thinking

All cities are equally cool, but some cities are more equal than others.

Ken "Chi Pig" Chinn cover of "Hurt", which is one of my favorite things, was one the last songs he recorded before his death. One he has performed for years in various forms, but the one he put out, being great.

I'm glad you're enjoying Skeleton Crew too, Maria - and like elph, I have come across Henry Cow before but wasn't attracted to their sound. As that was probably 40 years ago, perhaps they are worth a re-appraisal. I was impressed, not just with the songs of SC, but by this quote from Fred Frith about the short-lived band:
