that being said Cherry Bomb is a sick song even if I prefer the Bratmobile cover

It's mostly the vocals. Like, Morrisey and Ian Curtis and such just sound so goofy and how can they take themselves seriously while sounding so forced and fake? Is that how they think emotions are expressed? Really? I think it's basically exactly how you'd feel about death metal vocals. I imagine I feel the same way about the Smiths as you do about this. All I can summon is a lifted eyebrow and cynicism.

Partially correct, and that's why so much right wing stuff is in metal fandom, but that's a dangerous over-simplification. There's a primitivism to metal fandom that's about violence and action that's exactly what hardcore punk and the non-arty side of punk is about as well. It's about hunting deer and fighting your sexual rivals and that's what moshing is. It's not something that can be dismissed and ignored simply by saying that it's not smart or praise-worthy. It's primal and there and needs to be dealt with.

They do not sing like people speak even by the standards of singers. You have to be on their wavelength somehow to not wonder at why the **** they would sound like they do.
