^ I'm guessing that must be the famous Ennio Morricone on trumpet, so it was interesting to discover he'd been involved in this improv project. The music didn't do much for me though.

been playing trumpet in jazz bands in the 40s and practically all these guys in Gruppo went on to even more renown after Evangelisti died and the group disbanded. They contributed to quite a few of Morricone's soundtracks in the late 60s/early 70s. Bertoncini and Kayn recently had some career-spanning type releases just before they both passed away recently (Kayn's was my choice for best release of 2017) and I talked to Rzewski recently after a performance and he looks and feels good and is as feisty in his socio-political views as ever these days. Their importance to group improv cannot be overlooked or underestimated. Good to see Audience mentioned. In addition to House on the Hill, please consider Friend's Friend's Friend also. An interesting tidbit: after the band folded, the guitarist-vocalist went on to join the Doors as a replacement for Morrison after he died. That didn't last long. |
