This song is on the shortlist of my top 10 songs. The music and lyrics just go so perfectly together in a phanastmagorical way that is almost Lovecraftian. It sounds like you're sat around the durn campfire with some other cowboys in the middle of Texas and some guy starts singing and turns out he's not even human and you don't know anything else. The only artist I know who can evoke this feeling is Townes and even he could never quite nail it down like this again.

Townes was at his best just him and his guitar and everyone within earshot being as quiet as a mouse. Any extra sound is like a tattoo on a woman. Pollution.

Holding Nashville production against Our Mother the Mountain is like bitching about a tattoo on Scarlett Johnansson. The perfection is too much to bother with bitching about something that doesn't matter.

These just might be the most beautiful sounds a guitar has ever produced. Whenever I listen to this I always picture dandelion seeds on the wind of a cloudless day over a grassy plain.
