Surely this is the strangest country song.



People seem to rate Our Mother the Mountain lesser than Van Zandt's later albums, but Townes' vocal otherworldliness is most evident on that album, and it is so freaky. The stupid Nashville strings and **** are pointless, but when Townes is this insanely good it really doesn't matter what the background is. **** 'em. Townes overcomes all mediocrity.
