One of the best jazz albums I've heard
|
Yes! Great album that got loads of play in our house and on my radio show in the '70s.
Extension of Mwandishi really. He's a Buddhist and came to town here a few years ago to play with a fine quartet that was all arranged by a local Buddhist society. Got lots of pictures and a full recording. Spoke with him after the concert. Beautiful style of playing. Bless Mwile and his fabulous bass clarinet. |

You surprise me sometimes! Good album from Tjader.
Almost as popular as his "hit" album that I grew up with, "Soul Sauce." Probably a good idea for him to change the title from "Guachi Guaro" to "Soul Sauce" - easier on the tongue. Written by the greats: Chano Pozo & Dizzy, it was released in '65 (the YouTube date of '64 is incorrect). I have to include his great version of Mongo's "Afro Blue" as well (with Jimmy Heath, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell, Richard Davis and Grady Tate!) Spoiler for Guachi Guaro:
