First time I ever heard the Louvin Brothers' close harmony singing, I was kind of repulsed by how dated and cheesy it sounded, but as with much country, once I'd gotten used to the aesthetics I wondered how I'd ever lived without it. Gorgeous singing.

There's something about Willie Nelson's country ballads that transcend country itself. Something singular, that speaks of vision and realized potential which so many of his still-talented contemporaries could never quite reach. Willie Nelson can sound country as ****, but either way he just sounds like Willie.
