Moving on to a few key LPs of the nu jazz scene. I know the genre gets a terrible rap, being dismissed as bland, upscale urban cafe wallpaper, but it doesn't pretend to be anymore more, and I enjoy it for what it is.
Presently spinning the Verve Remixed complete series box set. The opener is a very sultry minimal electronic rework of Billie Holiday's "Yesterdays". Full playlist on YT here. The track which initiated me into the scene was from vol 2 - Willie Bobo's Fried Neckbones and Some Homefries.

My new boss dug the framed print I added to my desk today showcasing my favorite 20th century composers, and he asked if I'd seen this video. Definitely cooler than my last boss.

Like a lot of Waits fans, I don't particularly dig Alice. In fact, it would be right up there along with Blood Money and The Black Rider as my least favourite of his. But this came up in a playlist today and damn if it ain't good. Maybe I need to revisit that album...

I've grown weary of having to "lift" for some others
while having to repeat myself over at another thread, so I've decided I'll let someone else do the repeating while I get on with the more important aspects of life. Philip Glass Buddha Machine for his 80th birthday: Sorry, I forgot. I didn't take the picture above. Last edited by rostasi; 04-10-2017 at 05:05 PM. |
