A recommendation of music lit from rostasi is not something to be ignored. I'll explore it straight away. Thanks!

Wonderful stuff - thanks for sharing them! (Context for the Bicycle piece here.)

My introduction to his work was The Electrosoniks ‎– Electronic Music LP on Philips from 1962. I was astonished the first time I heard the track, "Moon Maid" from this album as the entire introduction was used (far more popularly) by The Ran-dells on their novelty hit, "The Martian Hop."

Here's "Moon Maid."

No sampling credit was given to Tom Dissevelt or Dick Raaymakers (here performing under the alias, Kid Baltan), and the Ran-Dells went on for decades to be hailed for their pioneering use of sine wave generators in music composition.

It's a great early example of uncleared sampling, though Buchanan & Goodman did it far more conspicuously with their break-in record, "The Flying Saucer Parts 1 & 2" - the earliest known mash-up track recorded in 1956.

That Ran-Dells tune used to give me nightmares.

Joanie Bartels' 1991 cover still does.

Yeah, I forgot about that version - thankfully.

Of course, now I'm thinking of that other extraterrestrial tune.
Do you prefer the Klaatu original or The Carpenters version?
(or The Langley Schools version for that matter).

After a lot of heavy number-crunching for my new job and new budget, I needed some unabashed silliness to lighten up the evening. Unpacked a catalog of mashups from my post-college days when I used to spin locally.
