St Germain - s/t (2015) - my favorite album of its release year.

Ludovic Navarre aka St Germain, Pioneer of the French Touch, the new electronic music of France, has become an indisputable and respected reference on the international music scene. Without him, Daft Punk, AIR, and Dimitri From Paris would probably still be playing parties out in the French sticks.
I was thrilled to pick up his legendary Tourist LP (2000) on Blue Note in my local shop and thought that surely nothing could top this classic.
Then came this mind-blowing s/t LP in 2015. Here, Navarre expertly blends electronic, folk, world, & country, West African Mande music, future jazz, downtempo, and deep house into an energetic but smooth set which rivals his previous epic.
I'm asking a serious question that I would like an answer to: when did non-hip hop artists start experimenting with hip hop? Cause Foetus was doing it in 1981 and I can't think of any artist who'd done that beforehand. And doing it in such a way that it still doesn't sound dated (I'm looking at you, Faith No More's "Epic").
