This borders on comedy.

i would say both the novel and the film are intended and delivered as black comedy, that's not to say that there isn't a serious message.

Other musical highlight of the film for me was the cassette walkman Bateman carries around with him, listening to 'Walking on Sunshine' on the way to work. The club scene with New Order blaring out too, very late 80s

The film is rubbish and not a patch on the book.

But I only say that because the bit in the book where he's running around the room with his cock inside some hooker's decapitated head was cut out of the film.

i seem to remember most of the sh*t in the book goes down in one chapter, and none of it you could recreate on film and expect to pass the censors. Especially the bit with the gerbil

Lulz, yeah I missed that in the film.
Bret Easton Ellis has always been a ballsy writer.

the point in the book though is by the time you get to the blood and guts you have an idea of what's driven him to such extreme ends. I love the movie as an experience but it's a much more objective narrative I guess

Bollocks to the censors , it's a film called American bloody Psycho.
You should get what you pay for. If you don't want to see people being psycho go see a Disney movie. I'm an adult I don't need protecting.

Well, that's my take on it anyway

i agree lol but i imagine inclusion of those scenes would have hampered it's cinematic release; and i think in light of the movie being a compacted version of the book (obviously) the original mutilation scenes would have just baffled audiences and ruined the movie. Who knows. Anyone who enjoyed the film should read the book regardless, i picked mine up on amazon for pittance. And then read Generation X

edit: the direct-to-video sequel stars William Shatner apparently *sigh*
