Soulwax
This video is brilliant!!
It's for Soulwax' "E-Talking" - set in a club, it goes through the alphabet listing different drugs and matches them to people in the video....very funny! (look out for the toilet attendant dude!) well.. i can't recommend this band enough... but they have a lot of facets so I'll try to help to explain.
Leave the Story Untold - First album.. Don't bother unless you really love their next album. Straight Indie. Much Against Everyone's Advice - wow! Any indie fan should have this as it's perfect. Can't recommend this enough. Straight Indie. Any Minute Now - Starting to get a bit dancy. Dance music but still based on Indie Music. Some great stuff here for sure (including E Talking from above). Think Indie with a bit of synths and dance beats. Nite Sessions - This is Any Minute Now done 100% dance. Very little (if any) guitars left as all syths now. Now... the group was started by two brothers who liked to DJ. They started doing 'Radio Soulwax' from Belgium and that becme 2 Many DJ's. 2 Many Dj's is completely different from Soulwax, but related by the group members... Anyways, they only have one official album 'As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2'. None of the others are official or sanctioned as it takes a silly amout of effort to get authorization to sample the 50 songs they have on their albums. That said, it's quite easy to get the others - I have Radio Soulwax Pt. 1-9 and about 10 Radio Soulwax Sessions and a few live sets. I think this is about the best party music ever made as they cram so many different songs and styles on a disc... Lastly - the two 'groups' just came out with a semi-official double album called 50,000,000 soulfax fans can't be wrong. It's a mix of electro songs along with a lot of Soulwax songs remixed. Highly recommended... I was first introduced to this band with 'As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2'. I found myself at FibFest (Festi in Spain) and saw that Soulwax were playing live. Didn't know their music at the time and was bored so my friend I and wandered over. I was absoultely gob-smacked. Seen them 6-7 times since and they are honestly the most consistently great live band I've seen in years. The only exception is the last time I saw them they did 'nite sessions' at Lowlands (festi in Holland) and it was... well.. not suited for a festi, but would have been ok for a club. It's not Indie music, but dance so quite different than their normal sets. In the last year the best band live that I have seen in Arcade Fire (seen only once), but the best band I've seen in the last three years is Soulwax. See them if you can!! |
