The Atomic Bitchwax I
#25 http://bigearflux.files.wordpress.co..._bitchwax.jpeg The Atomic Bitchwax: Atomic Bitchwax I Released in 1999 by Mia Records 1. "Stork Theme" – 2:28 2. "Birth to the Earth" – 3:48 3. "Hey Alright" – 3:27 4. "Crazed Fandango" – 5:25 5. "Hope You Die" – 4:35 6. "Ain't Nobody Gonna Hang Me in My Home" - 2:57 7. "Kiss the Sun" - 3:35 8. "Gettin' Old" - 7:27 9. "Last of the V8 Interceptors" - 5:53 10. "****kicker" - 3:51 11. "The Formula" - 10:21 The Atomic Bitchwax is an old school psychedelic rock band that many would consider bordering on the psychedelic and stoner rock genres. But as we all know pinning a band down into a particular genre is at times nearly impossible. TAB was created in the mid 90’s by two guys from Monster Magnet and Godspeed. It took about four years to get out this first album, which was well worth the wait. TAB1 is probably there heaviest psychedelic album with very minimal lyrics throughout the entire album. I have found many that get angry waiting for lyrics to show up, or something very coherent that they can sing in their head and be happy about for the rest of the day. If you are one of those people THIS ALBUM IS NOT FOR YOU. It is 100% riff driven with the very common solo thrown in almost every song. Surprisingly they have a very different approach to “stoner rock” than many of the leading bands such as Monster Magnet, Nebula, Fu Manchu, and Kyuss. First off the vocals are spread much thinner over than album, along with the absence of stop and go riffs that create tension. TAB1 really builds up momentum the entire time while being careful not to disappoint by adding in any duplicate sounding material. Secondly they have a very strong variety of sounds throughout the album. While keeping the riff driven rock sound they do not rehash the same five note bull**** over and over and over. Personally I feel if you give this album a chance it should be heard fully and in the order in which it appears on the disc. But if you are strapped for time and really need to hear the best now then I suggest a few songs for you. Track 1, “Stork Theme” is fantastic and will surely get you interested in the album/band quite fast. Second is track 7, “Kiss the Sun” which reminds me of a few songs off Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins. If you listen to these two tracks and enjoy, then The Atomic Bitchwax is definitely for you! |
Hate to be so nit picky but it's not a countdown if it's ascending. :p:

More lists! And More Music I've got to explore! This is good :D.
The Atomic Bitchwax eh. I'll go hunt it down and see how this goes. Only problem is that I find a lot of stoner rock/metal just sound alike without bringing anything new at all. The same thing was being done years earlier, just under a different name. Still though, don't wanna judge without even giving this a listen. I'll never know. Might even end up liking it. |
atomic bitchwax... damn good recommendation, I am listening to it now and enjoying the **** outta it.

Santana: Abraxas
#24 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...anaAbraxas.jpg Santana: Abraxas Released in 1970 by Columbia Records 1. "Singing Winds, Crying Beasts" - 4:48 2. "Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen" - 5:24 3. "Oye Como Va" - 4:19 4. "Incident at Neshabur" - 5:02 5. "Se a Cabo" - 2:51 6. "Mother's Daughter" - 4:28 7. "Samba Pa Ti" - 4:47 8. "Hope You're Feeling Better" - 4:07 9. "El Nicoya" - 1:32 10. "Se a Cabo (Live)" - 3:47 11. "Toussaint L'Ouverture (Live)" - 4:52 12. "Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen - 4:57 Santana does not really need a long introduction like many o f the lesser known artists out there. He is notorious for his long carrear, wealth of different band members, and Latin RocknRoll. Abraxas is his second album that follows his first self titled "Santana" release. The big difference that sets Abraxas apart is its song structure. While there are still long jams and the big band sound, songs are more formulated making the replayabilty much higher. My favorite aspect of this album is its (as previously mentioned) playability. Songs flow very well into each other and make for a great album experience. This is by no means an attempt to produce singles or standout tracks but one long latin masterpiece. The track listing above includes live track's and bonus tracks that were added when Sony remastered this album in 1998. If your in it for the quick download listen this is your best bet. If you are looking to get a foot in the door when it comes to Latin rock or Santana in general, then this is definitely a good place to start. I recommend for the real experience spend the extra 10 dollars and go with the vinyl. Regardless of me being a big vinyl pusher I think an old album like this sounds good with a little crackle and pop of the old style sound. P.S.* Abraxas probably has the best album cover ever. I dare you to find a more psychedelic work. |

I've only heard a couple songs off of Abraxas, it's good stuff I think I'm going to listen to more of it. Why is the track Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen listed twice on the album?

Very good start. TAB1 may not be the most innovative record, but the band possesses musical chops few bands can rival. Simply an adreniline charged guitar driven dirty rock n' roll record of the highest order. Good choice with Santana, though I think "Caravanserai" was a creative peak for him that he's never come close to re-attaining.

Checked out the Orgone cd. Very Very good. Kinda reminds of Soullive except better.
Atomic Bitchwax good but too unproduced for me too raw. Sounds like that music that your suppose to like cause you like music and the musicians are talented. But somewhere in there they get too ****y and liberal and it all just turns to ****. Sorry too say I dont think I would put in the top 25 but thats jus me. LIke it though would buy it. |
#23 http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NBdRxomQVG...sure-cover.jpg Cire: Pleasure Is Our Enemy Released in 2001 by Private Label? 1. Natural Correction (0:55) 2. Thrown (6:30) 3. Not This Again (1:02) 4. Thoughtcrimes (2:55) 5. Habitude (1:38) 6. Domestic (6:28) 7. Dica (4:07) 8. Infallible (4:35) 9. Obedient (1:51) 10. Fleas (6:39) 11. Beautiful Corrosion (5:48) 12. Officer M. (6:50) 13. Pen & Ink (7:13) 14. Aversion (5:51) 15. I Keep Falling (3:10) 16. Mirrors (7:00) Pleasure Is Our Enemy is not your typical album that would be thrown into a top 25 list. Scratch that, a top anything for that matter. The mastermind of Cire and now Emptyself is Eric Johanson. This particular album (the first of 3 that Cire has released thus far) was done while he was under 18; no one is really sure how young. I bring this up not to amaze you, or make him sound special but to explain the low budget recording, lack of advanced multi-tracking, and overall rough sound (mainly vocals). So if your expecting a well polished masterpiece done by an experienced musician, with recording and sound quality to match then leave this thread (or preferably wait till my next entry). PIOE is a borderline progressive rock guitar driven album While some songs not being as consistent, the majority of the album is full of wonderful melody's, rhythms, and progressions. Another large part of this album is the standard rock guitar solo's in many of the tracks throughout. Not surprising the best tracks seem to be almost led by these solo's, and sometimes even overshadow the rhythms. I suggest if your are wanting to quickly listen to this band you should start with a few key songs. Fleas, Domestic, and Dica have always stood out for me being some of the heavier more noticeable tracks on the album. Lastly keep in mind this album sounds NOTHING like the next two Cire alums, in which were recorded much differently and had the vocals revamped. I have a feeling most responses will be "this was terrible" or "to under produced". To that I will say this, not all music is a first listen then love type of experience. These songs are not meant to be catchy, have no major hooks, and actually contain lyrics that if you take the time to understand them will move you. On the other hand if you really like this album tell me, so I can refer you to his other solo projects and second/third Cire albums. Links(I think the full album is on Last.fm to preview.) #22 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...bb/Deltron.jpg Deltron 3030 (DTFH) : Deltron 3030 Released in 2000 by 75 Ark w/ Dan The Automator 1. "State of the Nation" (0:25) 2. "3030" 7:29 3. "The Fantabulous Rap Extravaganza" (0:21) 4. "Things You Can Do" (4:59) 5. "Positive Contact" (4:42) 6. "St. Catherine St." (0:43) 7. "Virus" (4:26) 8. "Upgrade (A Brymar College Course)" (4:10) 9. "New Coke" (0:41) 10. "Mastermind" (3:34) 11. "National Movie Review" (0:53) 12. "Madness" (4:38) 13. "Meet Cleofis Randolph the Patriarch" (0:36) 14. "Time Keeps On Slipping" (4:59) 15. "The News (A Wholly Owned Subsidiary of Microsoft Inc.)" (0:49) 16. "Turbulence" (3:33) 17. "The Fantabulous Rap Extravaganza Part II" (0:37) 18. "Battlesong" (4:07) 19. "Love Story" (3:26) 20. "Memory Loss" (4:39) 21. "The Assman 640 Speaks" (0:31) I have not once heard a concept album this meaningful and far ahead of its competitors. As you may know this is another project headed by Dan The Automator and Del Tha Funkee Homosapien. Del takes care of the lyrics and concept of the album while DTA makes most beats and atmospheres. Each tracks flows impressively to the next almost to the point that you would not want to listen to only part of the album. The lyrics throughout this album are its high point. Its the story of Deltron Zero's battle against a totalitarian government and large corporations. During this journey he is also fighting for the Galactic Rhyme Federation Champion title. This is all obviously taking place in the year 3030 and reflect what our world may become if people do not stand up and do something about it. Now don't get me wrong, this is not just somehting to listen to for the right message and some moving material but also contains a great (as usual from Del) flow and even more incredible beats, samples. Dan the Automator has done probably his best job to date creating a otherworldly futuristic feel to the beats and samples. Each track probably uses 30 different clips or sound effects to create a scene around the lyrics. If your just sitting down quickly to listen to a song or two this is probably not the album you should be listening to. I wont recommend any individual tracks because I really believe it should be heard as one. Anyone into hip hop or that likes everything DTA or Del has created should most definitely give this a lesson, as it will not disappoint. I don't usually listen to rap, but some of these songs were quiet good. I enjoyed 3030, Things You Can Do, Virus and Love Story the most.

that is an awesome album!
approved, you may proceed with your list. |
Catchy stuff! I'm not a hip-hop fan either, but I have a weak spot for concept albums and this one sounded interesting XP I gave the album a listen and it was pretty good :P
|
There are a few tracks on this album that I usually skip; some sound borderline retarded ("Things You Can Do") but other than that it's a brilliant album and the title song may be my favorite rap song ever. Good call. I was waiting for something I really liked. ;)
|
Great call on Deltron 3030, easily one of my favorite hip-hop albums.
|
The title track is one of the most epic Hip-Hop songs i've heard, gives me shivers. Very good call.

#21 http://robotanist.org/HT/pix/exodus.jpg Bob Marley and the Wailers : Exodus Released in 1977 by Tuff Gong 1. "Natural Mystic" – 3:28 2. "So Much Things to Say" – 3:08 3. "Guiltiness" – 3:19 4. "The Heathen" – 2:32 5. "Exodus" – 7:39 6. "Jamming" – 3:31 7. "Waiting in Vain" – 4:15 8. "Turn Your Lights Down Low" – 3:39 9. "Three Little Birds" – 3:00 10. "One Love/People Get Ready" – 2:53 Quite possibly the best roots reggae album ever to be released. Filled with the classics that everyone who is anything has listened to. Jammin, Exodus, Waiting In Vain, Turn Your Lights Down Low, Natural Mystic, and basically the rest of the album. If you do not enjoy listening to this album then I can only assume reggae is not for you, because this is the pinnacle of a musical genre; a focal point at which most musicions strive towards. If life leaves me down or in a bad mood, this album along with his 10-15 or so other albums have always been able to quickly change that. Sure, he may live in an idealistic world hat was never meant to be, but you can not help waling away from it with a positive message. The Wailers really show throughout this album. Sure it would have still been great without them, but it adds much more diversity to the vocals. If you enjoy this album (I dont know of anyone who doesnt) then definitely check out some albums by the other members of the Wailers including Peter Tosh, Junior Marvin, Bunny Wailer, and quite a few other members that were in and out of the group. Of coarse do not limit yourself to Marley and friends when listening to this genre, there is PLENTY of great roots reggae to last anyone a lifetime. |
