In their roots, some hymns are excellent lessons in harmonics. I can't speak for the generic Christian rock cliche-laden crap, but Christian "classical" music owes its roots to fantastic composers: Handel, Bach, Berezovsky, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, etc.
The problem with Christian music is that it becomes an exercise in worship and doesn't exist for the sole purpose of being music. In that sense, it loses its identity and assumes whatever the church wants to say.

I don't have anything against christian bands or anything like that, but I don't listen to them. Well, I probably have listed to some, but the thing is, I don't know it or I just don't care. I'm not going to not listen to a band just because they are christian, and I'm not going to listen to a band simply because of the fact that the band members are christian. In short, I just listen to the music and don't care about the religion or any of that other stuff.
But on average, most of the bands I listen to tend to be more on the Atheist side of things. This is most likely because churches might tend to dislike the kind of music I listen to, which is more noisey and experimental. |

There's a difference between atheist and agnostic. I can truthfully say that almost all the music I listen to has absolutely nothing to do with atheism or any connotation thereof.

There's a few good ones. Underoath and Addison Road are all that come to mind. But that doesn't make up for all the faux "chistian metal" bands. Thousand Foot Kruth, Kutless, Skillet etc.
Also: Why the **** do all my neighbors on last.fm have Relient K as a top artist? It's ****ing embarassing. |
