It finally clicked with me (metal, albums, quote, artists)

That's happened to me before with Death cab with cutie. I thought their name was stupid and just thought they were average sounding even though I hadn't really listened to them. I gave them more of a listen and I like them now. What clicked with me also was a few musical genres. I enjoyed the music on occasion but I was never a big fan of blues music or alternative country until very recently. I had the chance to listen to the modern blues station one night on my G2 portable radio (leaves Satellite Radio in the dust), and surprisingly I totally got into it big time. I didn't know there were so many newer blues artists out there and I loved how they played blues songs from crossover artists too. I was hooked. Same thing happened with Alternative Country. I happened to listen for a little bit one night and something clicked with me! I am also really into listening to it every day now. My musical focus was starting to get really narrow recently which I didn't like. I have always been REALLY open minded with music of all kinds. No musical snobbery for me. Lately I was only listening to the rock, hard rock, custom stations on Slacker and dance/electronica stations ONLY. I was like wtf am I doing? I have access to gazillions of different music and I decided it was time to step outside of my safe little musical box. I am glad I did. Things clicked for the best with me.

Kid A. Im not sure if it really counts as I still rarely ever listen to it but I was devestated the day it came out when I went out, brought it home and put it on and despised everything about it. Then I saw them live and everything off Kid A was mindblowing. Changed my opinion of it after seeing it live.

I was and still am more of a fan of the way Radiohead used to be. But the highlights of that live set I mentioned were the Kid A tracks. I remember that simply put I was in awe watching those tracks and Jonny Greenwood throughout. Never thought I would say that.

I think Amnesiac, HTTT and In Rainbows are Radiohead's best albums, so i suppose you could say i prefer their latter work. I could imagine live that album would be amazing though.

Anyway we must not mention Radiohead again in this thread or we'll be lynched.

A strange one for me was Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. I got into Floyd when I was about 18 and started on Meddle instead of the usual DSOTM etc When I then heard piper I was like WTF is this? After listening to the lushness of Gilmour era Floyd I just could'nt dig it. About 8 years ago I randomly put it on and just kept playing it. Now it's 2nd only to the mighty 'Animals' for my favourite Floyd album. It's a truly astonishing album and once you 'get it' you are hooked!
