When people claim their music is better than yours

Ever noticed how everyone is constantly trying to justifty their taste in music and say it's better than anyone else's?

Even if you havn't, it's easy to see how everybody goes around saying music they dont like is *insert obsenity*.

Here's the problem with musical opinion.. it's completely personal.

No one is right and no one is wrong.

A song can be beautiful for one person and the worst song another person has ever heard.

It really doesn't matter cause if your a true music fan, you'll go beyond liking a tune for it simply being catchy.

Anyway :soapbox: i'm done

MyWorld 12-03-2004 10:35 PM

I agree, it's annoying. I figure people who do that kind of thing are just insecure. I try to always just say what music I like, and if I say something is bad I hope everyone knows that's just my opinion. There's tons of different kinds of music for all the different kinds of people, I think it's cool everyone's taste is so different.

jibber 12-03-2004 10:45 PM

yeah, I completely agree with you, but the sad thing is, no matter how many times that idea is repeated, it never catches on. People will always be arguing and insulting anothers musical tastes, and others will always be taking personal offesnse to someone who doesn't have the same taste as they do.

theman78370 12-06-2004 09:47 AM

yeah, i agree. even i sometimesfind myself arguing w/ my friends over what kind of music is better. goes to show how we can often forget that music is music.

Oi_To_The_World 12-06-2004 05:03 PM

i try not to do this, but it happens. but in general, i like talking with people who have a wide range of taste in music. people who stick with one genre tend to be more argumentative and cynical towards other music, and it's hard to reply to someone who simply says they hate all so-and-so kinda music.

'Three violin manufactures have all done business for years on the same block in the small town of Cremona, Italy. After years of a peaceful co-existence, the Amati shop decided to put a sign in the window saying: "We make the best violins in Italy." The Guarneri shop soon followed suit, and put a sign in their window proclaiming: "We make the best violins in the world." Finally, the Stradivarius family put a sign out at their shop saying: "We make the best violins on the block."'

Sometimes a different approach is needed.

This is so true.
It's the only reaosn I own some Pearl jam records but use Pearl Jam posters for dart boards.
Not everyone is gonna like what I like. And I'm not gonna like what I like.
To keep that thin border and degree of sanity I just let in one ear and remember to blow out the other.
And it kinda helps that I lisetn to a veyr veyr wide range of music.

I've got just about everything in my CD collection. Aaliyah to Zepplin amd everything in between from the Von Bondies, even Britney Spears (no matter how much I hate her) and The Donnas. I'm not a big fan of the Donnas.
I've even got a Jadu (korean artist) in my collection and I don't even like her music. But I love stuff like Eugene and Sugar, and BoA, and se7ev, and chae tae hyun.

Yeah well, anyhow, for the most part i just try to keep an open mind because if I don't, I'm basically saying to myself that I don't wanna experience all the music there is to be heard out there. And there's a lot of music out there to be heard. And one of the things I am definitely gonna do before I die is a get a glimpse of all the sounds people have made over eeh years no matter where they're from or the language it's in.

Peace out.

^ you still have a britneee cd even if u hate her? i understand buying it when you were younger or whatev, but why would you still keep it? do you feel you might regret throwing it out?

I don't think I'll regret throwing out a britney spears cd.
I just have this reputation for having a really large CD collection. Throwing out any cd even a britney spears cd would take away from the credability of my collection.

raven 12-06-2004 09:10 PM

yeah i see what you guys are saying. rap is crappy how could anyone like it

Raine 12-06-2004 09:28 PM

^ who said rap sucked?

Rap is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Ignore all thoe ignorant low lifes who say that it's all bad.
There are so many great rappers out there.
Nas being on of the top ones out there. Big Pun (May he rest in peace) was definitely one of the greats who helped open the door to latino music in america. (Yo we coming up. First celia cruz, then selena, then big pun, now we got our own awards. That's what's up. It's ashame we got jeenifer lopez to represent the puerto ricans.)

In any case there are lots of greats in rap. You just have to search and find something you like.

Peace out
and eat lots of nutter butters.

I consider myself a very accepting person of all kinds of music, buuuut....to be honest, rap doesnt suck at all. The people who rap do however suck quite miserabely. I like rap back when it was original. I gotta say as of right now rap is dead. Rims, ho's, "tha money", "n' weed" are not elements that make for a good song, and until rap moves away from this gangster crap I would agree that current rap sucks......the big one. :bringit:

Oi_To_The_World 12-07-2004 06:53 PM

^ not all rap is about rims and ho's, although the popular rap is. isnt it kinda, i dunno, hypocritical to say rap doesnt suck but it's dead? im not trying to argue with you or anything. but i noticed lots of rap fans are more concerned about the beat of the song and the "street cred" of the rapper more so than what they're talking about. most people cant relate to the music, but wish they could.

I can kinda agree with whoever said rap is dead but it doesn't suck.

Back in the day you had rappers like 2Pac, Big Pun, Coogie Rep, Biggie and a ton of others.
That was rap. Today you've got peple like 50 cent, Llyod Banks and G-Unit and whatever claiming to be rappers.
Rap doesn't suck. Just the guys who are currently the latest thing these chics swoon over. And they're all ugly anyway so i don't know why the heck people listen to them. And I'm still amazed by the fact that they can even make money rapping. they are so awful.

So rap doesn't suck entirely when you think of all the past rappers. But rap is dead because it seems to be getting worse with each and every passing generation.
Anytime a rapper can come out with a song like '21 Questions' you can tell that people don't even care about the music they're listening to so much as tey care about what the rapper has been through and wahtnot. And getting shot 9 times does not consitute as reason enough to be able to get famous. And if I shot him 9 times he'd be dead. Anything to be spared the crap they play on MTV, BET and the radio waves.
Just thinking about makes me wanna shoot him 9 times.

Rap can have some good points about it, and can sometimes have alot of meaning, but alot of the times its too fast too understand. Im sure alot of people like it, but my personal opinion is that I don't like it as much as I like other styles of music

Oi_To_The_World 12-15-2004 10:11 AM

^^ i dunno, i like guys like ghostface killah and nas better lyrically than lots of the guys from the past, like B.I.G. or big punisher. theres good rap out there right now, it's just not on the radio (as much). but the stuff the rich white high school kids are listening to...horrible....just horrible....

ish 12-16-2004 03:18 AM

yes...underground rap i think its called...but as u say it is horrible...and is too fast too understand aswell
