..and this is exactly what I am talking about. Have you ever read my Pink Floyd album review thread? PF are my favourite band yet I diss them many times and it is deserved. Fanboys will not let any negativity enter their world and that breeds elitism and antagonism.

I'd just like to point out at this point I have plenty of albums by AC/DC , Sebadoh & Guided By Voices and listen to them regually (Well OK not Guided By Voices I've not listened to them in years I do have some standards) . But not Bright Eyes hence me not including them in my list.

Not to sound like a jackass but I think a lot of the defensive fanboyism has to with where people are in their lives too. I wasn't having music discussions on message boards at the time but when I was in my teens and early twenties I think I was a lot more defensive about my favorite bands than I am now.

Lucky you.
Generally I think the worst thing about this forum is that 90% of all it's content is overwhelming negative, yet everyone seems to agree on the same things. The only conflict on this site tends to come in the form of a helpless f*ck trying to argue with over 30 different people at once. |

Just as: Aerosmith/Metallica/Bon Jovi/ and the like sound alike as well. All these bands seem to do is release the same cd w/a different name.

Funny that you bring up Metallica.
You see, their albums DON'T all the sound the same, and it's that very reason that they have abandoned so many of their fans. Changing your sound can be a bad thing, in some cases. It depends on the music, if you want to take yourself seriously as an artist, you don't want to repeat yourself. Bands like AC/DC and Van Halen, are just entertainers, they don't consider themselves artists, and theres nothing wrong with that either, rock n roll at it's core is about having fun, the same criticisms people make of AC/DC and Van Halen could be made of Chuck Berry and Little Richard, but no one has the balls to do that. |
