Yeah, it's not like there's any new entries to discuss.

I appreciate the offer but I have really disliked everything I've heard by him so far. Is there something about Fevers and Mirrors that you think would appeal to someone with very negative opinion of I'm Wide Awake It's Morning?

I disliked Bright Eyes for about a year after my son first introduced me to it, but that album aside from a few tracks I can't relate to seems like such a powerful and personal effort that I find it endlessly appealing and fascinating. Plus there are some very good very simple acoustic songs that are fun to reimagine\rearrange and play yourself.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

I think Lifted is my favorite Bright Eyes album. It has the same feel as I'm Wide Awake, just written and produced 10x better.

It's the acoustic stuff that I don't like. Everything I had heard by him until today sounded like that and there's something about it that really bugs me. As a result of this thread, I listened to some samples from a couple of the albums mentioned and I can see why you and a few others have said that his sound has changed from album to album. Maybe I'd like some of that other stuff, but I'm really not a fan of his sparse acoustic songs.

Doesn't sound like it's in your wheelhouse, your time would be better served looking for music elsewhere.

4) Safety

Yes musical safety. There are so so many new threads that appear on MB that promote a band who are great at what they do or are musically unique that just seem to rot away. There is a small number of us on here who regularly trade through PM's because we love the thrill of hearing new music. Sometimes the recommendations don't work but what the hell. Music should be about taking yourself out of your comfort zone and trying to immerse yourself in as many different sounds and genres as possible. I am not asking you to like them. Just try them and maybe you will find a whole unexplored avenue of music that reaffirms that passion for music.

I am not for once suggesting that we all get on our knees and fellate every new thread on here but damn is'nt it about time some of you started chucking some names at the more mature of us who are not in the loop?

Is it a lack of confidence at getting shot down if your recommendation does'nt currie favour with all? Fuck that. Post away.

Never ever be satisfied with what's sitting in your music collection. There is literally millions of albums out there waiting to be discovered. Go find them FFS.

Then try Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, if you're up to it.

I think a major issue here is intimidation. New posters have often voiced that the feel the regulars can be a bit abrasive and there is no doubt the average MB member is much more "in tune" with the music scene then the average person.

I think this is something that could develop with time and does in individual cases. My musical knowledge has not grown so much so fast since my youth when all I did was chase down music and books and magazines about music.

As I type this I am listening to a abnd I'd never have found without Music Banter, you are so fucking right when you say how great expanding your musical horizons can be, but here I'd say it's more up to those who have felt the benefits of this open mindedness to share their experiences with others and promote it as you do then it is up to those without self experienced motivation to be expected to change their habits and preconceptions.

One of my major gripes with Religion is that a lot of religious people need other people to believe what they believe.

Music is the opposite for me. I don't care who likes what I like; it doesn't effect my experience. I wish everyone felt exactly as I did about everything and I can't understand why they don't, but I understand they do and I don't let it fuck up my day cause I can't control it.

Thanks for a new topic Lee.

Heh. That sounds like a challenge. I'll try and give it a listen at some point.
