I was mainly kidding, but come on, chuck berry has one song. Live he would be fantastic, but on record he can't sustain my interest.

I'm not a Berry or Little Richard fan, or a fan of 50s rock n roll at all, but I have respect for the guys and their music. I'm not too into them, but I wouldn't call their music boring either, not at all.
I do however think Berry and Richard are extremely overrated when people praise them and diss Zeppelin, AC/DC and Van Halen, when it's all the same kind of music when you get down to it. At least you are consistant, I'll give you that, if you hate Zeppelin, AC/DC and Van Halen then goddammit you should hate Berry and Richard too, I hate it when people pretend they don't just because so many people think every old black guy in the music industry has to be put on a pedestal, immune to any criticism. Yeah, there, I said it. |

I'll admit I'm quite the Elvis Costello fanboy, so it must sound a bit rich coming from me, but I agree that fanboyism in general is pretty damn annoying. This is why I never go back to a certain fan forum I used to moderate on - countless posts just elevating the singer-songwriter in question to some godlike, be-all end-all status and any views top contrary being beaten down. I'm not necessarily saying it's like that here, I'm just saying that that kind of thing pisses me off and I agree with the thread (so far).

I find people who bash Radiohead to bits almost as annoying as those who praise the band to death, and the same goes for other bands who seem to polarize their potential audiences.

I'm fairly new here and my musical tastes are surprisingly unique. I like hair metal. There I said it. I love Poison and Crue and all that stuff.
I'd put it up against emo and pop and anything else anyday. It's the people HERE that just roll their eyes. My guitarists can really really play. The drummers can play and the singers get waaay up there. The musicianship is so good that I believe people roll their eyes out of "I can't do that" rather than scoffing. Hair metal is just as valid as anything else. Hey, at least I enjoy my music rather than always trying to get something out of it. I'll sing along to songs about booze and cars and babes. You people can moan along to your inner turmoil or whatever the hell else you want. |
