Popmatters Best of the Year
I'm aware that there's plenty of people who dislike 'best of' lists because they are essentially pointless and unreliable. But regardless, I'm posting this because it is a pretty interesting list and I think a lot of discussion could come out of it, hopefully a bit more than just complaining about where things are ranked.
Plus, there's quite a bit of music that I don't see discussed much on this site and maybe some people will spot something that interests them. The Best Albums of 2008 < PopMatters Picks: The Best Music of 2008 | PopMatters I think it's a good list, they covered most of my favourite albums from the year, although not many were high on the list. I'm a little shocked that Bedlam in Goliath didn't make it on there. Tha Carter 3 at #8 was a big suprise for me and I think calling it the best rap album of the year is a bit ridiculous, but that was the only thing I had a real problem with. Your thoughts.... |

The site is a bitch to load. The list was as usual. Some good, some bad. Elbow in the top 10 is perplexing and it's full of the usual names except for The Bug album which I still need to get hold of.
With a website called Pop Matters, I was expecting far worse.

seeing Bon Iver's album at 30 just broke my heart, and I couldn't go on any further up the list. There wouldn't be a point anw, cause it means my taste is in a complete different galaxy then the one of the people who came up with the list

Holy crap that was almost as bad as last.fm's. none of the top 50 deserved to be on the list, infact Watershed was the only album on the entire thing that deserves to be even close to a best of list for anything.
