I love Diva by Beyonce.
I really don't have musical secrets unless it's horrible. But I don't mind telling people what I like really. |
I like Bon Jovi. Like, not even guilty pleasure like. I genuinely enjoy their music.
I hate myself. |

dues 1st as a jingle writer for commercials that we still hear today...collecting royalties like crazy his entire life: some of his more "popular" songs are 30 second hits you've been singing since a kid...some examples would be>> 1) "I am stuck on band-aids 'cause band-aids stuck on me...." 2) "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there..." 3) "My baloney has a first name ..it's O S C A R ...." Yes- I like James Taylor, as well. He's also a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. I know some may say he's a little too mellow, whatbnot, but he's endeared his music to me.
Olivia Newton-John and Kylie Minogue are two of my musical guilty pleasures. LOL, Kyle- do you think BJ will get in the Hall of Fame? Overall, I'd lump the music more with Foreigner and Journey than, say, U2 and R.E.M. No doubt BJ remains a powerful touring attraction, though. |

HolidayG1, I could NEVER place Bon Jovi in the same league as U2 and REM - commercially they may have exceeded REM, and I am perfectly OK with that, but creatively they aren't even in the same league... REM, in nearing 30 year career, have produced very few stinkers... some might malign Around the Sun (but i still like it, actually) but Bon Jovi's whole career sounds like a series of Around the Suns, time and time again...
Should I mention the device with which one cuts cookies? |

of business art...as if not successful one would quickly be 'out of business' -- What I am getting at is that from a music publishing POV it is a wise move to do jingles as the publishing licenses are scalable especially when we're taking about jingles that have survived from the 70s and are stile viable today in this frenetic and capricious music market where commercials and sound bytes are the big money winners since they rely on licensing deals and not CD sales. Manilow though ( my god I am embarassed to say this ) is a great performer I saw him in Las Vegas many times. His piano skills are up there with Elton John. |
scottsy, that would be a pretty accurate term. hehe Slippery When Wet by far is the band's highlight (and even that is no masterpiece). It's not that I couldn't see the Hall of Fame nominating BJ, but I find it humorous that anyone thought the band was a shoo-in when it became eligible this past year.
Barry Manilow has a talent for jingles, sure, and for those cheesy love songs. He's another one that I can't believe anyone would think would be a no-brainer for the HOF. he's been eligible for some time, and if he hasn't been considered as of yet, likely not to happen. |
