Leasing Copyrighted Music

I've a chance to let another group record one of my copyrighted songs to their new album as a cover.

The problem is, i don't know what to charge to lease my song to them and still retain the rights.

also, they are offering me a share in the profits of the cd's they sell.. so how do i go about coming up with a percentage for that?

get a lawyer

if it's not worth that cost, it ain;t worth fussing over.

i've known the musician for 6 years or so. are you sure that i should lawyer up? and if so, are there specific lawyers for this type of situation.

Yes there are, contract lawyers, just to make sure if the song goes big, you get a fair cut and if not it does not cost the band an unfair amount. If you trust the musician then just ask for a fair cut based on revenue generated, but without a lawyer, it's a risk you'll have to be taking.
