Maywa Denki
I anyone on here familiar with Maywa Denki? Absolutely amazing Japanese group playing handmade mechanical instruments in this video, this really has to be seen to be believed:
I don't know much about this, but from what I gather this is some kind of art organization fronted by a guy named Nobumichi Tosa. He and his associates make crazy-ass music machines and create music/performance art pieces. |

I saw this lot on a TV show a while back and loved them but couldn't remember their name.
Good find.

A lot of people have made their own instruments over the years, I always think it's really cool. Raymond Scott, for example, was making his own electronic instruments years before Kraftwerk even got together. What I find interesting about Maywa Denki though is that the instruments aren't so much electronic as they are mechanical. Sure, electricity is involved in powering them, but the actual sounds comes from something physical like a bellows or something hitting something else as opposed to coming from a sine wave.
